He was born in Oil City April 21, 1933, and raised at the family home at Emlenton RD 1, the youngest of his siblings. His parents passed when he was a child. After an early start to school in the local one-room schoolhouse, Mr. Heeter later graduated in 1951 from White Memorial High School in Knox. Upon graduation, Mr. Heeter joined the U.S. Navy. Stationed at NAS Memphis, Tenn., in 1951, he worked for the Naval Air Group as a teacher and trainer. During that time, he met and married his first wife, Irene. They traveled to North Africa where he was stationed for another two years. Upon returning, Mr. Heeter attended Indiana Technical College in Fort Wayne, Ind., where he studied drafting and design. He subsequently accepted a position as an aerospace designer for Bell Labs in Marietta, Ga. He next accepted a position in Mt. View, Calif., working for Philco, later to become Ford Aerospace, where he worked for the remainder of his aerospace career. As NASA's Johnson Space Center was starting, Mr. Heeter was selected for promotion and transferred to Houston as part of Philco's contract to develop Houston's Mission Control Center. He and his family, now including daughter, Leslie, and infant son, Thomas, arrived in Houston Jan. 3, 1964. Mr. Heeter worked with NASA from the early days of the Johnson Space Center through the peak of the Gemini and Apollo space programs. While working at Ford Aerospace, Mr. Heeter enjoyed his hobby of refurbishing boats and homes, beginning with his own boat and his waterfront home in Clear Lake Shores. He eventually purchased several other houses, updating and remodeling them with great care and delight, as rental properties. He used his funds wisely and did much of the work himself, once raising a garage with a lot of determination, patience, some shims, and a forklift. To those who knew him, these houses are part of his legacy today. Besides his contributions to America's space program, Mr. Heeter was honored by his ability to contribute to the advancement of medical science. He was willing to undergo many new medical procedures. After surviving a cardiac arrest at age 42, Mr. Heeter had triple bypass surgery, a new procedure at that time, performed by Dr. Denton Cooley. However, cardiovascular difficulties continued. On May 15, 1987, with new wife, Patricia, and his other close friends and family at his side, Mr. Heeter received a necessary heart transplant, miraculously after only a week of waiting. The transplant was completely successful, one of the first to be so. Unable to return to his duties at Ford Aerospace, he worked on his rental properties, a source of pleasure and income. He helped Patricia raise her children, Lee and Judy Claire. More recently, Mr. Heeter underwent the first successful ablation on a transplant patient, a procedure that prevented the need for a pacemaker. His final illness was not related to his heart at all, and his beautiful heartbeat was the last thing to leave us. He enjoyed many additional years of life as a result of his medical courage. Wayne Heeter is remembered as a kind, creative, intelligent and resourceful man who freely shared his many talents and skills. Since his Navy days, he loved the water. He found peace, enjoying the view of Clear Lake while working on his waterfront properties. He will be greatly missed. A memorial service was held May 24 at the Jack Rowe Funeral Home, League City, Texas. Services will be held in Emlenton for the family and he will be laid to rest nearby. Donations may go to St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital, Transplant Fund; Attn: Ms. Renita Killam, 6720 Bertner Ave., MC 2-114A, Houston, Texas, 77030. Eugene W. Horner Eugene W. 3. Peggy, I have a copy of an obit for Catherine Weeter Reese. I do not show a listing for Sarah or Harry Reese. Do you have death dates to see if they died before their mother in 1910. Also on the 1880 Census, the listing shows John Reese age 73, Catherine age 51, George B.M. Reese age 14 and Candance age 12. Then on the 1900 Census the listing shows Catherine age 71 with 8 children born, 5 still living. Also there were five still living at the time of Catherines death. Her first six children from first husband Henry Weeter were Josiah Alvin (sometimes show Isaiah), William Warren, Elisabeth Allis (died before age 5), Mary Elisa (died before age 5), Elivira Malissa married to J. F. Hummel, Emma Jane married to Bart Minor. Her last two from John Reese were George B.M. Reese and Candance married to Charles Johnson. It is interesting to look at the Obit. It shows that her maiden name was Weeter and her first husband Henry was a Weeter. I also have a copy of the death certificate that backs up her parents that are listed below as Jacob and Christena Weeter. So bottom line is--I am not sure about the relationship of your Sarah and Harry to the John and Catherine Weeter Reese group. UNLESS there are two Reese/Weeter families. I did notice that your John Reese was younger than the one listed on the 1880 Census. I have copies of most everything I have quoted above. If you are interested, let me know.. Linda Galloway Obituaries From the Clarion Democrat 1906-1910 REESE Catherine--August 11, 1910-- Mrs Catherine Reese, wife of John Reese, was born in Licking Twp, Clarion county, PA., June 19, 1828 and died August 3, 1910, aged 82 years 1 month and 24 days. She was the daughter of Jacob Weeter and Christena Weeter. She was married to Henry Weeter in 1854 and to this union was born six children. She became a widow in 1863 and in 1865 was married to John Reese of Easton who for many years was popularly know as "Uncle John Reese" and to his union was born two children. All of the children who are living were present for the funeral; Mrs. J.F. Hummel, Mrs Bart Minor, Mrs. Charles Johnson, J.A. Weeter and Dr. Geo B.M. Reese. She died at the residence of J.F. 1. GRUBER children - you have a small mistake
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: GRUBER - WOLBAUGH - RUTH - HOLBEN - CAMPBELL - MOHNEY - BEST - REINARD - HILLIARD - MERCER Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/GaB.2ACE/570.1.1 Message Board Post: Hi Butch, We are all grateful that you returned safely from Iraq. THANKS for your service. Sorry I am slow in responsing to your posting. On your list of children of Johannes GRUBER (1781-1851) and Catherine FAUST (1790-1872) two are grandsons, not sons. Children of Johannes Sr. & Catharine: 1) Peter b.1815 m. Lydia MOHNEY - 6 children 2) Christina b.1817 m. Samuel HOLBEN - 8 children 3) Henry b.1819 m.Catherine WOLBAUGH - 8 children 4) Hannah b.1821 m. Elisha RUTH - 8 children 5) John Jr. b.1824 m. Euphema CAMPBELL (myGreatGrandparents) - 6 children 6) Andrew Jacob b.1826 m. Elizabeth REINARD & Salome REINARD - total 10 children 7) George b.1828 m. Elizabeth BEST - no children John Wm. Martin GRUBER (1870-1943) is son of John GRUBER Jr. & Euphema CAMPBELL. "JWM" is my GrandFather. They had 6 children with only 3 living past childhood. They lived in Elk City and Elk Twp., Clarion Co. Johannes Franklin GRUBER (1844-1896) is oldest son/child of Henry GRUBER & Catharine WOLBAUGH. He m. Eve MERCER 1 Apr 1867 and she died 3 months later. [source: his Civil War Pension papers] He m. Sarah Jane HILLIARD 27 Aug 1868 and they had 7 children in the Hawthorn area of Redbank Twp., Clarion Co. ALL the remaining children of Henry & Catherine moved with them to Isabella County, Michigan, and married spouses from that area and they stayed there. George and wife Elizabeth BEST did not have any children. He served in an Ohio unit. They also moved to Isabella County after the Civil War. Peter's wife Lydia MOHNEY died in 1858. Their youngst son was Jacob M. and he was 5 yrs old and stayed with Peter's brother & wife, John & Euphema, who did not have any children yet. Jacob/Jake was raised and treated like a son by my Great-Grandparents. Peter took the other 4 children to Michigan and relocated in Isabella County like his two brothers Henry & George. As long as I'm talking about children of Johannes GRUBER Sr., I will include 2 daughters of first wife, Elizabeth BEST. 1) Eve/Eva born at 1810 in Northampton County 2) Elizabeth born 1812 in Moore Twp, Northampton Co. The mother, Elizabeth died the day daughter Elizabeth was baptized. We do not know if daughter died or was raised by someone in the FAUST family, or ...? 1) Eve/Eva moved with Johannes Sr & Catharine & 7 children to Redbank Twp., Armstrong County, in 1836 [source: Family Reunion minutes of 1935.] Eve/Eva married Jacob SHELLY and had 8 children. Youngest, Eliza Jane SHELLY was 2 yrs old when her mother died in 1849. Eliza Jane was given to John Jr & Euphema to raise; maybe since they did not have children yet. Eliza Jane stayed connected to the John & Euphema GRUBER family her entire life. Eliza Jane married John SHERMAN and they had 11 children in the Redbank area. Her father, Jacob SHELLY remarried to Mary MINICH HAINES and had a couple more sons who relocated in Michigan years later. After John SHERMAN's death in in 1912, Eliza Jane filed for a Civil War soldier's Widow's Pension and the affidavits are excellent about Eliza Jane being raised by John Jr & Euphema GRUBER; one affidavit dictated by Euphema Campbell GRUBER herself. Guess that's enough for now. Keep in touch! Please Keep me as the source!! Marsha Allen, Tempe, AZ
