Born July 18, 1949, in West Virginia, she was the daughter of Walter R. Catron, who survives in Daphne, Ala., and the late Mary Frances Carroll. Mrs. Birch worked as a waitress at Truckstops of America in Brookville for more than 20 years. She enjoyed playing bingo and spending time with family and friends, especially her grandchildren. On April 2, 1966, in Fayetteville, N.C., she married Albert R. Birch, who preceded her in death Aug. 22, 2001. She is survived by two daughters, Valerie Dunham of Brookville and Aimee Carbaugh of Marienville; two nephews who she raised at home, Curtis and William Hankins, both of Brookville; numerous other nieces, nephews and cousins; a sister, Wanda Maye of Daphne, Ala.; two brothers, David Catron of St. Peters, Mo., and Scott Catron of Cartersville, Ga.; and five grandchildren, Mykayla Dunham, Cheyenne Carbaugh, Shawna Carbaugh, Shaylee Carbaugh and Savannah Whiteman. In addition to her mother and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, Walter Catron, Jr.; a sister, Beverly Lynn Hankins; and an infant son, Michael Scott Birch. Burgard, 57, of 538 Atlantic Ave., Franklin, was pronounced dead shortly upon his arrival at 6:39 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 27, 2007, in the emergency department of UPMC Northwest, Seneca. Mr. Burgard was stricken suddenly at his home with an apparent massive heart attack. Born June 5, 1950, in Franklin, he was a son of the late Charles W. Burgard and Selena Jewell Barnes. He attended the Rocky Grove Area Schools and graduated in 1968 from Rocky Grove High School. For his working career, Mr. Burgard was employed as a steel worker and truck driver with the former Franklin Steel. He retired, following 20 years of service. Mr. Burgard was an avid NASCAR racing fan. He enjoyed traveling, and most especially traveling to the Daytona Speedway each year for its annual 500 race. He was an avid reader, with a particular fondness for Stephen King novels. He will always be remembered for his passion for Harley Davidson motorcycles and riding his own Harley as often as he could. Most especially, he enjoyed spending time with his family, in particular with his grandchildren. He was of the Protestant faith. Mr. Burgard was married on Sept. 1, 2000, in Franklin, to the former Tammy Snyder, who survives. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Sabrina Backer and her husband Brian of Huntersville, N.C.; his step-daughters, Amber Snyder of Franklin, Jamie Parker of York and Jessica Parker of Butler; and six grandchildren, Britton and Cambree Backer, Dominic Hatstat, Tyus and Jaylin Wood and Rashawn Washington. Also surviving are a sister, Musetta "Tubby" Latchaw of Franklin; and brothers, Arthur "Art" Simpson and his wife Diane of Nevada, Charles "Chook" Burgard and his wife Shirley, and Walter "Walt" Burgard and his wife Donna, all of Franklin; and many loving nieces and nephews. "Tabby" Davis, 93, of Loomis Street Ext., Ripley, N.Y., died peacefully Saturday, Sept. 22, 2007, in the home of his sister, Mavorette Rater, in Ripley. Born May 22, 1914, in Warren, he was the son of William H. and Loretta Corbin Davis. Mr. Davis was a machinist for 35 years in Building 18 for General Electric, Erie, until his retirement in 1972. He loved the outdoors and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps in the early 1930s, fighting fires and making trails in Oregon, Montana, Washington, California and Idaho. For 25 years, Mr. Davis went on fishing trips with his buddies in Quebec, Canada. He loved to bowl, read and watch PBS programs when he could still hear well. He also loved to go to lunch and visit with his friends. Surviving are his daughter, Linda DeVries and husband, Larry, of Sherman, N.Y.; two grandchildren, Nick DeVries of Appleton, Wis., and Lindsay DeVries of Seattle, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews including Paul A. Rater of Buckeye, Ariz., and Clarence "Hank" Rater of St. Augustine, Fla., and others in the Oil City area. Carrie Avonell "Avy" Mowry, 90, formerly of Mercer Street, Sandy Lake, died at 4:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 28, 2007, in St. Paul Homes, Greenville, after a period of failing health. Born Jan. 25, 1917, in East Randolph, N.Y., she was a daughter of the Rev. Charles C. and Rozella DeHaven Mohney. She was a 1934 graduate of Jamestown High School in New York and attended Grove City College. She managed the former Sanford's Drug Store of Sandy Lake for 17 years and also worked at the former McQuiston Jewelry Store of Sandy Lake for six years, retiring in 1982. For several seasons along with her husband, she operated the campgrounds for the Army Corps of Engineers at Shenango Dam and Tionesta Dam. She was a 50 year member of the former Sandy Lake Methodist Church, now Lakeview Methodist Church. She was an artist and loved to paint and for many years did much work locally. She was a member and past president of the Sandy Lake Women's Literacy Club, and was also a member of the Lakeview Music Club and the Sandy Creek Conservancy. On April 10, 1939, she married Merrill B. "Mern" Mowry, who preceded her in death May 29, 1996. Mrs. Mowry is survived by a daughter, Judith A. Arnold of Alexandria, Va.; a son, James M. Mowry of Mississippi; six grandchildren, William J. Mowry of Chesapeake Beach, Md., Jill A. Hoffman of Conestoga, Jennifer R. Arnold of Fairfax, Va., Melissa J. Williams of Charlotte, N.C., Meghan A. Arnold of Alexandria, Va., and Carrie D. Arnold of Charlotte, N.C.; four great-grandchildren; two step great-grandchildren; and one step great-great grandchild. Born Aug. 9, 1927, she was the daughter of the late Lloyd "Dewey" and Bernice "Bea" Kline Boltz of Rimersburg. She graduated from Union Joint High School in 1945. Mrs. Summerville was the prothonotary and clerk of courts for Clarion County from 1977 until her retirement in 1995. She served as the state president of that organization in 1987-88 - one of the only women to serve in that capacity. She also served on the state committee to write the procedure manual for those offices and took law classes at Clarion and Indiana universities. Prior to her political career, Mrs. Summerville was employed for 13 years as an elementary secretary for Union School District. In her earlier years, she served as a charter volunteer librarian for Eccles Lesher Memorial Library and a Sunday School teacher and superintendent. She was a member of the Jerusalem United Church of Christ of Rimersburg, where she had sung in the church choir. In recent years, she enjoyed participating in a local Bible study, the Eccles Lesher Library Book Club, and Clarion County Democratic Women. A devoted mother and grandmother, she was an avid reader and sports enthusiast. Other hobbies included cooking, painting, crafts, and any musical or sporting event in which her children and grandchildren participated. In short, her family was her life. She is survived by two sons, Rick and friend Rebecca Leas of Fairmont City, and Crist and wife Debb of Knox; two daughters, Lugene Crawford and husband Rich of Parker, and Suzanne Olszewski and husband Bill of Renfrew. Also surviving are five grandsons, Curtis and Adam Crawford, and Cody, Christian and Corbin Summerville; and two granddaughters, Danielle and Logan Olszewski. Born Dec. 29, 1919, at home on Bredinsburg Road, he was the son of Robert and Gladys Thompson Heath. He attended Bredinsburg School and also schools in Randolph Township. In his younger days, Mr. Heath assisted his father on their family farm and worked as a farm hand for Mr. and Mrs. George Smith. In 1965, he started employment as a mechanic at Wentworth Auto Sales in Mount Hope and worked there until he retired in 1981. Mr. Heath enjoyed walking and made many friends and acquaintances. Surviving is a sister-in-law, Elizabeth S. Heath of Monahans, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Robert S. Heath; and two sisters, E. Irene Heath and Mary Ellen Burket. Born March 29, 1919, in Oil City, she was the daughter of Joseph and Frances Browsky Nasky. She was a 1937 graduate of Oil City High School. In 1938 she started her career as a legal secretary in the National Transit Building, working for Attorney Benjamin McFate.When Mr. McFate joined the firm she became his secretary and continued in that position until she retired in December 2005. Mrs. Rekiel was a member of St. Joseph Church. Her fondest memories were of the times she spent with her parents working at the family business, Nasky's Candy Store on Spring Street, Oil City. She was married in St. Joseph Church Nov. 11, 1952, to Alexander B. Rekiel, who preceded her in death May 7, 1973. Surviving are three daughters, Ann Osterman and husband, Greg, of Oil City, Patricia A. Seitz, who survives. Christina King Stark Christina King Stark, 58, died Monday, Sept. 24, 2007, in The Caring Place, Franklin, where she had been a resident. Born April 10, 1949, in Upper Darby, she was the daughter of the late William and Ruth Penton. She was employed in the packaging department at Owens Brockway Glass Plant. Mrs. Stark enjoyed crocheting, reading, swimming, watching movies and cartoons, especially "Garfield," and was a fan of Elvis. She also was interested in computers. Surviving are three sons, Jack Frederick Bradley Jr. of Youngsville and Andrew Scott Bradley and Matthew Glenn Bradley, both of Oil City; and eight grandchildren. She also is survived by two sisters, Kate Shields of Springfield and Liberty Beatty of Upper Darby; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents. There will be no visitation. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday in The Caring Place, Franklin. The family suggests memorials be made to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. State St., Pleasantville, died at 11:20 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 25, 2007, in the Titusville Area Hospital. Born June 24, 1933, in Titusville, he was the son of the late Calvin and Thelma Kerr Warner. He attended Titusville High School. Mr. Warner was a machinist and last was employed for 15 years with Quaker State. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed trapping, hunting and fishing. He was a musician who played guitar, as well as other instruments. He played in several bands during his younger days and loved to square dance and polka. Mr. Warner was a member of the Pleasantville Volunteer Fire Department where he was dispatcher for second shift. He was married in Titusville June 22, 1957, to Mary Barker, who survives. They couple recently celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Surviving, in addition to his wife, are four children, James L. Warner and wife, Paula J., of Centerville, Brenda Evans and husband, Brian, of Prospect, John M. Seyler and wife, Debbie, of Jamestown, N.Y., and Scott Seyler of Warren; several foster children; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He also is survived by three brothers, Donald Warner and wife, Verna, Kenneth Warner and wife, Wilma, and Philip Warner and wife, Karen, all of Pleasantville; two sisters, Sue Peterson and husband, Richard, of Cambridge Springs and Grace Warner and husband, Russ, of Union City; and numerous nieces and nephews. Barrett, 60, of New Bethlehem, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 25, 2007, in Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh. Born April 7, 1947, in Kittanning, he was the son of Roy C. and Reatha V. McElwaine Barrett of Dayton. He was a graduate of Clarion University and was a life member of the Alumni Association. Mr. Barrett retired from Armstrong County School District. He was the head librarian at Dayton High School from 1969 until his retirement in 2000. He was a life member of the NEA and the Armstrong County Chapter of PSEA of School Retirees. He was a member of the New Bethlehem Volunteer Fire Co. where he was past president and an active fire policeman and was a member of the county and state Fire Police Association. Mr. Barrett was a member of the New Bethlehem Lions Club and was past zone chairman and deputy district governor of District 14-N and was the local club secretary for 20 years and treasurer for 10 years and was the recipient of the Melvin Jones Award. He was a past president and member of the New Bethlehem Borough Council, serving for 20 years. Mr. Barrett was a member of the New Bethlehem Blue Lodge 522 and the Coudersport Consistory and was the first president of the Clarion County Consistory Club. He also was a member of the Clarion Moose Lodge No. 101. He was married Jan. 17, 1969, to Winnifred L. Williams, who survives, along with his parents of Dayton. He also is survived by two sons, Michael Paul Barrett of Chicora and Scott Christopher Barrett of Gettysburg; two granddaughter, Makayala Ann Barrett and Emily Marie Barrett, both of New Bethlehem; and a daughter-in-law, Leeann Barrett. Born May 14, 1947, in Franklin, he was the son of Harding and Betty Branan Shaw. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era. Mr. Shaw was the facilities manager of U.S. Network for the Canadian Pacific Railway. After his death, he took his last train ride Monday, Sept. 24, from St. Paul, Minn., to Pittsburgh. Mr. Smith was a coal miner, a maintenance worker for Pennsylvania Memorial Home in Brookville and a bartender at the Fraternal Order of Eagles No. 1860 in New Bethlehem. He was a member of the Eagles Lodge, VFW No. 415 and the American Legion, all in New Bethlehem. Mr. Smith was married May 21, 1976, to Evelyn Bish, who survives. In her earlier years, Mrs. Smith was employed in housekeeping at both the Quaker State office building and the First Seneca Bank in Oil City. She was a very dedicated homemaker and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, music, dancing, shopping and spending time with her many neighbors and friends. Mrs. Smith was married in Seneca July 28, 1950, to Kenneth E. Smith, who survives. Also surviving are two children, Sandy Neubauer of Oil City and Craig Smith and wife, Emma, of Port Matilda; four grandchildren, Shawn Schillinger and wife, Jennifer, of Groveland, Fla., Robert Neubauer Jr. and his companion, Kristina Emert, of Oil City, Lauren Smith and Maxwell Smith, both of Port Matilda; and two great-grandchildren, Kody Schillinger and Hunter Neubauer.
