Main St., Cambridge Springs, died Friday, Sept. 26, 2008, at Shadyside Hospital in Pittsburgh. Born Aug. 1, 1931, she was a daughter of the late Roger and Lillian Phillips Eddinger. On Sept. 5, 1953, she married Dr. John P. Hobson Jr., and he survives. She and her husband resided from 1958 until 1990 in Tulsa, where she was active in politics. They had lived in Cambridge Springs since 1990. Donna began her earthly journey in a modest frame home along the Allegheny River in Parkers Landing. She graduated from Cranberry High School and entered Penn State as a part-time student, working as the secretary for the geology department. It was there that she met her future husband, and they were married Sept. 5, 1953, at St. Stephen Church of Oil City. In 1958, they left for a new home in Tulsa, and there she found herself in the middle of the 1960s civil rights movement, fighting tirelessly for others who were unable to fight for themselves. Donna began her activism by purchasing a home with John in a segregated neighborhood in hopes of promoting multiracial integration. She then became a member of a watchdog group which placed pressure on local governments to enforce an equal accommodation ordinance that opened restaurants to everyone in a dignified manner. She also worked to place pressure on local real estate agencies and lenders, opening opportunities to all. As an active voter, she championed John F. Kennedy, writing a pamphlet entitled "Church and State Clarified." For this, she was formally thanked by Kennedy and his brother, Robert. In the years to follow, she balanced campfire meetings and volunteering at the school cafeteria with an interest in helping the homeless, homebound and poverty stricken. During this time, she also took on a notorious Oklahoma parole board and, with years of effort, convinced the board to release a young woman wrongly placed on death row. She and her husband returned to Cambridge Springs to live after his retirement. After the move, she engaged in a legal battle with the state over the placement of a prison in the town and then dedicated her time to writing an ordinance regulating low-level radiation waste sites in the area. She coordinated local events for the Salvation Army with special dedication given to the Christmas kettle fund-raising campaign, and she was also a member of the women's auxiliary at the Golden Living Center nursing home in Cambridge Springs. During these years, she remained devoted to her family, children and grandchildren. With her life-long interest in writing and literature, she wrote many short stories, fairy tales and letters to friends. In 2008, she began writing as the Crawford County east correspondent for the Meadville Tribune. Donna was a love-filled Christian, and Jesus was her Lord and Savior. Through Him, her physical pains were endured. Her final, soft breath came with her family holding her, courageous to the end. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughters, Jennifer Hobson Ramchandran of Export and Melissa Hobson Vogel of Norman, Okla; her five adoring grandchildren; one niece, two nephews; three great-nieces and nephews; and her sisters, Lucy Seaman of Sparta, N.J., and Janet Boor of Emlenton. She was later employed by First Seneca Bank. Tomann retired from Joy Manufacturing, where she was employed as a confidential secretary in the accounting department. She enjoyed theater and performed in many plays and musicals during her high school years and into college. Later she was involved in several shows for the Franklin and Oil City theater groups. She particularly enjoyed the dinner theater shows that were performed at Cross Creek and other area stages. Her last performance, "Love Letters," was performed at The Barrow Theater with Hank Gent. Tomann was always cheerful and full of energy. She enjoyed caring for her family and her home and also spending summer days at her cottage along French Creek. She was an accomplished cook and took great pleasure in being sure that meals were prepared and served to perfection. They had either 7 or 8 children...the last may have been a grandchild. Amanda Moore was my grandfather's first cousin and I've been trying to locate more information on Robert Paul Perts who died in "1938" in Pittsburgh. I don't have any more information on Lesta, whether she remarried or not. I do see a better marriage date now. Between 1921 and 1927, the date for your obit. Would you please respond to my email and let me know if you have anything more on Robert and Lesta Perts? Dale born 1856 in Pike Twp., Clearfield Co., PA married 30 Sept. 1869 in Clearfield Co., PA to George B. Teeples born 1832. I believe he was born in Canada. Adella, aka Della, was the daughter of A. Bennet Dale born 1828, of Pike Twp., Clearfield Co., PA, died 1857 in Pike Twp., Clearfield Co., PA who was married about 1855 in Clearfield Co., PA to Sarah Ann Irwin born 27 Aug 1837, Pike Twp., Clearfield Co., PA, died 5 September 1890, Bloom Township, Clearfield Co., PA. Adella was their only child. After death of A. Bennet Dale, Sarah Ann Irwin Dale married 5 July 1857 in Bloom Twp, Clearfield Co., PA, Hugh C. Leech, born 30 May 1829, Pike Twp, Clearfield Co., PA, died 14 June 1909, Bloom Twp, Clearfield Co., PA. Nine children were born to the 2nd marriage. I am descended from Hugh C. Leech and Sara Ann Irwin Dale Leech. I have seen this Della Teeples in Clarion County. I don't know if this is the correct Della Teeples or not. The last time I can find Geor! ge and Della Teeples is the 1880 Census, Pike Twp, Clearfield Co., PA. They are also in the 1870 Census in Pike Twp, Clearfield Co., PA. Neither George, nor Della, has an estate file at the Clearfield Co. Courthouse. Ancestry.com has "The Progress" (Clearfield, PA) available to search. You will find Mary McDivitts obituary there. She died 8 March 1858. She was born 16 Feb 1878. You can also find the obituaries of Verdin Teeples died 24 April 1960 and Edgar E. Teeples died 5 Nov 1955, brothers of Mary Ellen Teeples McDivitt. I am getting ready to send to the state of Pennsylvania to have them search for a death record for Della Teeples, assuming that the Della Teeples in 1910 and 1920 in Clarion County is "our" Della Teeples. The daughter(s)? "Bernice" in the 1910 Census and "Beatrice" in the 1920 Census, aren't mentioned in the the other Teeples obituaries. That bothers me. Waiting to receive one "Teeple" and one "Teeples" marriage records from Clearfield County ! Courthouse. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 3. The Derrick, September 20, 2008: Suzanne Treadwell Grove, Charlottesville, Va. Robert L. King, Garden Street, Emlenton Dorothy Jane Rodgers, Leesburg, Fla., formerly of Franklin Walter H. Whitling, Knox Suzanne Treadwell Grove, 82, of Charlottesville, Va., died unexpectedly Monday, Sept. 15, 2008, at a local hospital. Born July 8, 1926, in Williamsport, she was the daughter of the late Edwin W. and Ethel Orvetta Boner Treadwell. Sue jumped with both feet and confident determination into a life that took her to a challenging job in journalism, for which she received high honors. Some years later, she continued her higher education, graduating Phi Beta Kappa from Allegheny College and with a Bachelor of Arts cum laude in political science. Suzanne completed her studies with a Master of Arts in Russian studies at Syracuse University, where she met her husband. Sherman's work and their common interest in travel took them to the Middle East and points beyond. After Sherman's acceptance of a professorship in engineering at the University of Virginia, the couple moved to Albemarle County in Virginia. Always ready for a challenge, Suzanne shifted her focus from real estate to home building, and in 1975 founded Grove Construction Co., becoming the first woman builder in Albemarle County. For over 20 years, she produced homes of exceptional quality and used her desire to serve and her leadership skills for the Blue Ridge Home Builders Association. There she served in many capacities, including first woman in Virginia as president of a local Home Builder Association, and, in 1994, Life Director. She also had positions on state and national levels and was appointed to three terms by three governors to the Virginia State Sewage Board. Sue's interest in politics and the local community led to further opportunities to utilize her talents. Sue was known to have said that, in order to succeed, she had to "Act like a lady, think like a man, and work like a dog." Those who knew her expected her to speak her mind. Many also knew that "Mama Sue" had a heart of gold beneath her toughness, and that she would give with great generosity when she saw a need. Sue had a special affection for her companion-cat, Rambo. She is survived by two nieces and one nephew, Betsy Ross-Graham, Amy Ross-Ledva and Kevin T. Ross; and many special friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Cornelius Sherman Grove Jr.; and her sister, Nancy Treadwell Ross.
