Hi List, I would like to have an overview of the English & Irish that came to the Chester Co. area in the 1600 & where they were born. I need your help on this. If you are interested in participating please e-mail me directly at: [email protected] I would need to know the year or approx. year they arrived, their full name, their date or approx. date of birth & the "place" where they were born & the ship they arrived on if known. I have to have the "place" in England or Ireland -- not just England or Ireland. Example: Arrived: Name: Date: Place of Birth: abt. 1683 Robert SOUTHERY c1645 Westbury, Wiltshire, England Ship: (if known) Everyone will receive a copy of this survey. Please DO NOT send me any genealogy info just the info on the immigrant! I hope this overview might give us some new clues & connection from whence our ancestors came. :D Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS)
From the Wilmslow Parish area of CHESHIRE came many members of the JANNEY and BURGESS family in the 1680s, Thomas Janney and family went to BUCKS CO, as did most of the BURGESS immigrants. Also from Wilmslow, Styal in Pownall Fee township of Wilmslow Parish to be precise, came three PEARSON brothers, Thomas, John and Edward. Thomas and John PEARSON came aboard the ENDEAVOUR in 1683. Edward and his family came four years later. Edward, whose name was often spelled PIERSON, spent the first year or two in Darby, Chester County, and then moved on to BUCKS County. His wife Sarah was a BURGESS, and they were probably drawn to Bucks by the fact that several of Sarah's brothers went there and did well. Thomas PEARSON was married to Margery SMITH, daughter of Robert & Ellen WILLIAMSON SMITH of Styal. Her sister Mary SMITH was also aboard the ENDEAVOUR. Another sister, Ellen Smith COPPOCK, came to Chester County, and a brother, John Smith, came to Bucks County in the 1680s, but I cannot give the years offhand. In 1681-1683 Robert and Mary HAYES TAYLOR along with 7-9 children, came from Clatterwick in Great Budworth, Cheshire, to Chester County. Mary and most of the children were aboard the ENDEAVOUR, but Robert and two of the children came a year or two earlier. John and Mary WILLIAMSON HOWELL came aboard the ENDEAVOUR with their three daughters. Mary was from Stretton, daughter of Robert Williamson, Wheelwright. Her 17-year old brother Daniell Williamson was also on the ENDEAVOUR, ostensibly an indentured servant to Robert Taylor's family. He later married the Mary Smith mentioned above and was cuckolded by one of the Taylors (Josiah, to be specific) of Clatterwick. Another gang of folk from Cheshire and adjacent areas of Lancashire and Staffordshire came in 1682 aboard the SUBMISSION. They included BLACKSHAWs, PEMBERTONs, HARRISONs, and others. Many of them ended up in Philadelphia rather than Chester County. All of the people I have mentioned were QUAKERS. A lot of very similar people came to New Castle County, Delaware, immediately adjacent to Chester County, PA. John & Henry GRUBB (Quakers) came from Cornwall aboard the Kent in 1677. Richard BUFFINGTON, probably a Quaker, came from Buckinghamshire to the same area at about the same time. He and John Grubb engaged in some joint business ventures, and one of Grubb's daughters married one of Buffington's sons. Is this the kind of information you wanted?
