    1. [PACHESTE] WINTER(S) and HERBERT
    2. Greetings List and Happy 2004!!! It's been a while since I posted to this list and thought I'd give it another attempt. I'm looking for information on WINTER(s) that married HERBERT sisters who were daughters of John HERBERT and sisters to Morgan HERBERT. I do not have the sisters first names or anything about them. I do know Walter and John WINTER were hung July 03, 1728 Cuccasea, Chester Co Pennsylvania for killing what they thought were "hostile" Indians. I do know before the men went to confront the Indians, John had gone by his house to pick up a small child. This child was William b 1726. The child and women folk stayed at the house of John Roberts while the men all went to confront the Indians. Before John and Walter were hung, they both swore to God they thought the Indians were hostile and they thought they were helping their community and families become safer. A man by the name of John Roberts got off his horse and hit the Indian woman in the head with an axe. They both swore to God they were not guilty of murder of their mother. Apparently, WINTER took two of the Indians to the home of George BOON (sic) to collect a reward. Walter Winter and John Herbert took the corpses of the 2 Indian women and hauled them out of the road and covered them with some leaves." The 3rd brother was named Morgan Herbert, & was convicted at the same trial as an accessory to the crime, but received a reprieve, and was released by the crown. The daughter of the Walter wives was John Herbert, not Morgan, and he was also convicted of the crime. Found in PA Archives i. 218. Walter's son, William grew up in Berks Co PA where the Winter, Boone and Lincoln people all lived. This was around the town of Amity. When Squire Boone was reprimanded for two his children marrying outside of the Quaker Church, he decided to move to where his kids could marry who they wanted. They all went to VA for a while and then on to Anson Co NC in 1750. William eventually move along with them. In 1751 William and Squire Boone were the chain carriers who laid out 640 acres of land that Squire Boone had applied for through a Grant. In 1753 this Grant was approved. This area of old Anson Co now had become Rowan Co NC. I would like to know what happened to the HERBERT / WINTER wives after the death of their husbands. There's no mention of either wife going to VA / NC with BOONE family. Charlene and Family Richardson Co NE May you always walk in sunshine. May you never want for more.
