    3. I looked at the censuses and didn't find anything relevant. However, I found an 1890 Veteran's Schedule which listed, in West Chester, a James Stokes, Assistant Surgeon, enlisted 8/6/1862, discharged 6/15/1865. So it seems that he was in West Chester after coming out of the army after the Civil War. A likely candidate, I would think. maybe this same fellow?
