There are two different entries for JAMES STOKES among the University of Pennsylvania Medical Department Matriculants, 1806-1852 Addendum 1853, 1857, 1860. One is listed as from Germantown in 1853, and the other from Milestown in 1857. The latter has [M.D.] following the date. In the mid-19th century it would not be unheard of for a person who attended a medical 'department' to be acting as a pharmacist. Paul C.
