from the Exulanten list: There is a website which I found quite helpful when searching for phone book entries of surnames in Germany. It shows the geographic distribution of last names in Germany: http://christoph.stoepel.net/geogen/v3/Default.aspx Enter the surname you are looking for and push "Kartieren" - and it ill show the respective "surname density" in Germany.
