Just to clarify who owns who: The Generations Network is the umbrella for: MyFamily.com Ancestry.com rootsweb.com genealogy.com ancestry.co.uk (United Kingdom) ancestry.ca (Canada) ancestry.com.au (Austratlia) ancestry.de (Germany - the first of theirs in German) ancestry.it (Italy - in native language)) ancestry.fr (France - same) see their link: http://www.tgn.com/default.aspx?html=overview There are free items in each...such as message boards for surnames and countries/counties under Ancestry and Genealogy.com in their 'communities' section. MyFamily has a fee usually paid by the person who starts it and sends invites to othes to join, as it is for people who want privacy. All of rootsweb.com is free......Most require a userid/name and password. Ancestry.com has a monthly or yearly fee depending on what or how long you wish to use their data and images, etc., as does genealogy.com. But the small amount per year to have a website like they provide (which I love) is well worth it and the cost can be divided up as many have done on the MyFamily.com sites that I am already a part of.
