I would ask all not to think too harshly of the ladies mentioned in previous messages. I can give a very good example of the slanting of the laws of the times toward men. We had a young man with five children who was reported lost in the "War Between the States." The young, presumed widow walked to a neighboring state to be with a brother so she could feed her children. In due time she remarried. In 1870, divorce proceedings are filed in my state by the husband, with witnesses to her adultery. The divorce was granted. Researching this family in depth, I find this man's oldest daughter by the second marriage, was born in 1867 in Georgia, the state where he supposedly died. This was before the widow remarried. Yet, she was an adulteress. --------------------------------- Never miss a thing. Make Yahoo your homepage.
