I"m looking for the family of Julia Rebecca C. Sadler, who on 28th August, 1908, married Willard Thompson Smith. Family records don't say where. It would have been somewehre in northern Delaware, southeastern Chester County, Pennsylvania, or in Philadelphia. POSSIBLY but not very likely, it was in Salt Lake City, Utah. I think that in 1908, my great uncle, Willard Thompson Smith, was still serving his term in the Delaware legislature and had not yet gone to Utah, where he served in Salt Lake City as a special agent for the U.S. land office. His parents and siblings all lived in Philadelphia by 1908. The family all lived on the family farm in White Clay Creek, near Newark, New Castle County, Delaware, on teh border with Chester County, Pennsylvania, until just after 1900. But the 1900 census index makes it look as though Willard, who was serving the first of two terms on teh five man Delaware state Board of Education, was living in someothing like Red Lion Hundred at the time. I have access to the 1900 census but have not yet had time to check. Willard T Smith died in Salt Lake City in 1925, and I would think it is likely his widow and any children, which I understand there were some, returned home wherever that was. My father, who is 81, dying of cancer, and beginning to lose it, wrote me a very nice but confused letter that mentions a family of children named Catherine, Bill, Frank and Jim the twins, and Judy. He outright states he isn't sure which widow's children these were. There is another sibling of my grandfather I as yet know nothing about. He also mentions that he thinks this bunch of children, who I guess were orphaned, and one of them was taken in by my father's father's sister Mayme, lived in Delaware City, wherever that is, at some point. And he mentions the Sadlers, plural. I don't know if these kids were Sadlers, children of Willard and Julia, or children of somebody else. Yours, Dora Smith __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Kick off your party with Yahoo! Invites. http://invites.yahoo.com/
