    1. Re: [PACHESTE] Forks of Delaware, PA ~
    2. Hi Jan, The FORKS OF DELAWARE now known as Easton, Northampton Co., PA. What is now known as "The City of Easton" was originally called "The Forks of the Delaware." By this name it was designed by the Indians themselves, long before the appearance of the white man at this beautiful & romantic spot, & though the white man gave it a new name, the Indian to the latest generation clung tenaciously to the title given by his father to the place where the Lehigh River empties its waters into the greater Delaware. Ref: Some Of The First Settlers of "THE FORKS OF THE DELAWARE" and their Descendants, by the Rev. Henry Martyn KIEFFER, D.D. pg. 1 Note: Northampton became a county in 1752 before that it was Bucks Co., PA. There is also an area called JOHNSONVILLE in Northampton Co., PA. The following info was sent to me with no reference: JOHNSONVILLE: No community in all of Northampton Co. has been know by more different names than this small village in Central Upper Mount Bethel Twp. at the headwaters of the Jacoby Creek. It is located NE of Bangor & SW of Echo Lake. The present name is in honor of Gilbert JOHNSON, its founder, being called JOHNSONVILLE in 1870. 1st owner of this land was Alexander CAMPBELL, hence CAMPBELL's Creek. 1st building was erected in 1818 by Jacob STROUSS 1st store Jacob HOUSER. Up until the Civil War the village was called ROXBURG or ROCKSBURG. Jacob STIER came here abt. 1846 & sometimes the village was called STIER. The names JOHNSONVILLE, STIER & ROXBURG were used interchangeable by map makers. JOHNSONVILLE is the most commonly used name. The name of the Post Offices in this area were: Boston (1850) Kautatunchunk (1850) Kittatinny (until 1862) Boston (again in 1862) Johnsonville (1866 until 1917) Stier (1917-1933 when closed & the service is now from Bangor) Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS) In a message dated 10/22/0 4:07:46 PM, WildBillHk@aol.com writes: << In ZOPHER JOHNSON's Revolutionary War pension papers, he states that he was born in the FORKS OF DELAWARE, PA ca 1762.
