    1. [PACHESTE] re: details on the where and when of Blue Pig
    2. Dora Smith
    3. I got more information on Blue Pig. Could help narrow it down. The woman died in March, 1902, and "death records at the Chester County archives" say she was born and died in Blue Pig. Several others were listed as having been born and died in Blue Pig, too. She is buried in Fremont ME Church, Fremont, PA. She was Eliza Jane Cooper Johnson, and her parents were Barkley Clay Cooper and Eleanor Jane Phillips. She was born in 1869. She supposedly was married in their home. "Their homestead was not too far from the Fremont ME Church and Cemetery." "The Blue Pig stumped the women at the Chester Archives. They are very curious as to the location of blue pig. " The librarians at the Chester County Historical Society, who aren't the same people as those at Chester County Archives, were the only living people who knew what was Wesley Chapel; it was Flint Hill Methodist Church, in Franklin township; it may have been called Wesley Chapel for only two years of its existence. If they weren't asked already, I'd call them up. I'd ask at the Cecil County Historical Society, too. They have a web site somewhere. There seems to be agreement it could have been some place or tavern nearby. Someone else will have to look up taverns. If I can find that on line interactive topographical map system that someone put me onto when I was looking for the Blue Mountain, I can search the area. It would opnly have modern names, though. Someone already tried old gazeteers. I would call Chester County Archives, and get tehm to check the tax records for West Nottingham Township for 1902. The Blue Pig, if it were a tavern or such, may show up on them. Also, I'd ask in Chester County Historical Society for any directory of local businesses for the period. Then I'd repeat this for the township immediately south in Cecil County, Maryland, at the Cecil County Historical Society; they are as well organized or more so than Chester County's. There you can get detailed property maps, fire insurer's maps, everything. For a finite price. At Chester County, the Smith clippings folder would cost me $162.00! I'd also check on any other property her father owned in Chester County - and also in Cecil County. And when exactly he bought and sold it. Also, if she died at Blue Pig, and she was born there, then she may have lived much of her adult life there - so I'd also find out exactly where was ALL of the land that she and her husband owned, in both Chester and Cecil Counties. Unless it was the local Blue Pig Hospital! (chuckle) Rats, I thought it was just exactly the sort of word puzzle I was up to the other night... Still might not hurt to look for things that could be transliterated as Blue Pig, like Blue Peak, and Blooping. Maybe it goes with Intercourse!
