REPLY: The 73 stones that I have gotten for the "Soldier's Walk" should be in the ground by next May. They will not be placed on the veterans' graves but all in the same area of St. Martin's Cemetery--"The Soldier's Walk." <<I visited St. Martin's P.E. cemetery back in Oct 1986, and knew I had some ancestors buried there, but did not receive the exact info and map of grave location until spring of 1987. Here I was wandering around were the Morton's, Valentine's, Johnson's etc. were located. Almost like they were saying, "here we are".>> <<I also have an American Revolutionary Ancestor buried there by the name of William Talley. When I contacted somebody about getting him a headstone, I was told he couldn't have one because he served from DE and was buried in PA. If you live in the area, you know that the early settlers went back and forth across the river to church, home etc. He and his son's were members of St. Martin's, but after he died the son's then changed to church in DE. Do you know if the story I was given is correct, or can he have a marker?>> REPLY: This is the info I have on William TALLEY--Revolutionary War: TALLEY, William -1790 d) Pvt. Capt. Courthouse in Media, PA. <<I was also surprised when I visted Chester Rural Cemetery and discovered that no mention was made of my great grandfather William Dean Pullen Sr's Civil War Service on his tombstone. I believe his brother's tombstone, Samuel L. Pullen, does mention his service. What has to be done to get Civil War Service marker for William Dean Pullen Sr?>> REPLY: Call you local Veterans Affairs Office (VA) & tell them you would like Form: #40-1330. They will send it to you are give you a phone # where you can call & order it. I call 1-215-381-3138 or 1-215-381-3163 here in the Phila. area. The stone is free but it will cost about $100.00 for the foundation, but that's according to where you live. <<His wife was Arabella I. Talley and is also buried there. The thing I really found strange was that his parents are also buried in same plot and they don't have a marker at all. They were Samuel M. Pullen and Mary Martha Marvel. They were the parents of both William Dean Pullen Sr. and Samuel L. Pullen, who both served in Civil War for PA. Would appreciate any information you could give me in regards to Veterans Headstones. Sincerely, Margaret (Peggy) Ann Nesbitt, 3725 East Hermosa Vista Dr., Mesa,AZ 85215-1703. mar.nesbitt@prodigy.com >> I hope this was of some help! Please let me know how you make out! I'm writing a book on the genealogy of Marcus Hook/Lower Chichester. It will be revolved around those buried at St. Martin's Cemetery & especially the Veterans. I know I cannot cover all the families that ever lived in Marcus Hook but I would like to start with the 1600s & work my way up to 1900. The book will be called "Genealogy The Heart of Marcus Hook," hopefully it will become a series & others will pick up where I left off. Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS) P.S.
