PLEASE TAKE NOTE: The use of the term REDSKIN is flammatory to anyone of Native American Ancestry. It is no different then calling an African American person the N word. I kindly ask anyone referring to me, to call me by my given name of Mary Jane or BrightStar. But if you feel you must call me by my screen name, it is Redski not Redskin. I don't know how my post got on three list. I only belong to two of them. So you may want to forward this explaination of past conversation reguarding, my personal feelings on Historical Societys. DORA- I'm replying to Helen's concern about something REDSKIN wrote in defense of county historical societies. I don't know if Helen rightly thinks that REDSKIN was talking about her - in fact, I thought she was both talking about me, and talking to me. Mary Jane-- Point # 1- I wrote in defense of Historical Societys as a whole and Libarians as well. This is my feeling about it. It was not in confronting way.And it had nothing to do with your post or anything Helen thought.. Dora-- I also thought it might just be something the person who posted that note just happened to feel strongly about. In fact, I didn't realize she'd posted it to the list, thought she'd just sent it to me, now, let's hope when I check out what she wrote about that I thought that, we don't all burst out laughing, I'm so out of it. Mary Jane # 2-- I never sent this to you Dora. I sent this to the list and to Helen. And your right, this is how I feel about any agency that protects and persearves my family history or our Historical sites. Dora-- She wrote something about giving me more than what I had asked or something. I wrote back, alright, a woman after my own heart! I agree that MOST county historical societies do a really great job... Mary Jane #3 You asked the question, "How is Judge Kelly involved in this?" My reply was: In a message dated 8/28/00 8:59:16 PM Eastern Daylight Time, tiggernut_48@yahoo.com writes: << I missed it -how is Judge Kelly involved in this? >> Hi Dora, I was inquiring about Judge Kelly. I just wanted to know if he was still at Media courthhouse, as a judge. I have known him for many years, and thought I would give his office a call.He has alaways cared about Delaware Co. and it's residents. And he is a great person. If my memory serves me right, their is almost no important position in Del. Co. that you don't need pull to get.Somtimes you have to go to someone with more pull in the Co., to get anything done. And even more so, if the person is a county worker.I think you guys on the list have great ideas and I am ready to follow your lead.I would be more then willing to give him a call, and I think I will. I will at least ask him who he thinks the best person to complain about all of this is.I also think that we need to stand behind our Historical Societys. I have no trouble from those folks. And they work very hard at what they do. Same with some of the small town libarians. I love DELCO, but honestly, some of those at Media Courthouse, act like your taking money from their pockets and their family history.I suppose what I fear most is Big Goverment getting involved with our family geneology. Down here in Florida, were I am now, some are really ticked off that their family records can be looked at.And if Congress had it's way, we would be paying 5cents for every piece of e-mail we send.Anyway, I know I answered a bit more then your question, but this is how I feel about it. Mary Jane Bright Star FOR THE RECORD: I support DELCO and all researchers in their quest for public family info, as mentioned in the rules of the FOIA.
