    2. Nancy Finch
    3. I am seeking info on Norval S. Kirkner b. 1892 in Chester County. He married Helen D. Wallis and had a daughter, Grace born 1914. I think Norval's father was George W. Kirkner b. apx. 1861. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

    3. I'd like to invite my 6-greats grandmother Ann BUFFINGTON to see whether I could get a reasonable explanation of some bizarre behavior that landed her in jail. The following is from the court records: *************************** Chester County, Pennsylvania Court records 1681-1697 (printed ) p. 157 Anne, ye wife of Richard Buffington being by warrant apprehended & convicted before John Bristow for defiling her marriage bed was by her sureties Richard Buffington and Francis Little bound over to this court & accordingly made her appearance and was indicted. Witness, prosecutor James Chivers. The grand inquest further ye bill whereupon shee is called to ye barr & pleads not guilty & referrs herself to God & ye county. (petty jury names given). The testimony of James Chivers taken in writing before John Bristow remains on ye file. The said James Chivers being againe attested in open court saith he did see a man and a woman lying upon ye ground & ye man lying upon top of ye woman & ye woman looking up he saw it was Anne Buffington. John Eldridge being attested declareth as abovesaid. James Chivers upon his attest further saith that Anne Buffington was very earnest to know who this man & woman was for said she ~~ there is never a woman hereabouts that hath a black hatt but I and then it must needs be me. June 5th 1689. p. 158 Wee ye jury unanimously agree that Anne ye wife of Richard Buffington is guilty of this indictment whereupon judgement is granted that she receive 10 stripes upon her bear backe well laid on & 12 months imprisonment att hard labour in ye house of correction & to pay all court charges. ********************************************* Her 'confession' in the last line of the testimony is just about the wildest statement I've ever seen in print, and I want to ask my honored ancestress: WHAT WERE YOU THINKING?!! Paul

    2. Thier are so many that I would like to invite, my mom who died the day before 9/11, my dad. But most of all I would like to have my great grandfather Frederick F. Gerard. He was with Gen. Custer at the Little Big Horn and I would like to hear the real story. Unless he added his own twist to it:) Happy Thanksgiving to all Nancy

    1. [PACHESTE] My Guests for Thanksgiving
    2. Arlene Gemmill
    3. I would love to invite my ancestors who served in the Revolution: Joseph Irwin; John Gemmill; Robert Boyd and their relatives. Firstly, I would want to thank them for the wonderful government and country that they helped found. I really feel thankful towards them for all their sacrifices and hardships to "secure the blessings of liberty for ourselves and for our posterity" and would welcome a chance to tell them. It would be so fabulous to hear their stories and know more about their lives, their histories, and their hopes and aspirations. Jeffersonian democrats, they would undoubtedly be dismayed about the present government in Washington and the awful turn things have taken in the last six years. But I would hasten to assure them that the government is turning around in recent weeks. And that there are still many Americans who know and venerate the Constitution, all is not lost. Secondly, I would want my ancestors at the Thanksgiving table to help celebrate the recent election returns. Living in San Francisco I would want them to know about Nancy Pelosi becoming the new Speaker of the House. Imagine, not only can women vote, they can hold highest office now! Whoeee! Cause for Thanksgiving. Thirdly, it would be so amazing to show my ancestors how much the country has changed since ca. 1800 when they died. From sea to shining sea. I would probably take Joe, John and Bob out to the beach so they could dip a toe in the Pacific Ocean they never got to really learn of. And just drag them around the City so they could appreciate how much everything has changed since their day but the new country and Constitution still stands. We have endured. I think they deserve to know that their sacrifices have borne so much fruit and to meet some of their posterity. Joe, John and Bob's descendant, Arlene Gemmill

    3. The 1921 fire which severely damaged (but did not completely destroy) the 1890 census schedules was never identified as arson. The details are here --http://www.archives.gov/publications/prologue/1996/spring/1890-census -1.html -- but here is the conclusion: "Despite every investigative effort, Chief Census Clerk E. M. Libbey reported, no conclusion as to the cause was reached. He pointed to the strict rules against smoking, intactness of electrical wires, and noted that no rats had been found in the building for two months. He further reasoned that spontaneous combustion in bales of waste paper was unlikely, as they were burned on the outside and not totally consumed.(18) In the end, even experts from the Bureau of Standards brought in to investigate the blaze could not determine the cause." 1. [PACHESTE] Who Would You Invite to Thanksgiving Dinner?
    2. I would invite Samuel Naylor my second great grandfather, born about 1816 in Chester County and died in 1864 at Andersonville Prison in Georgia. His wife Lydia remains an unknown after many many years of intense research. I would ask about her family. His parents are just now identified as Thomas and Edith Naylor. I would ask about their family in New Jersey. I would ask about his siblings who were apparently all plasterers, did they only live in North Liberties/Kensington during the building season and return to West Caln in the winter? Last but not least I would ask about his tenure in Andersonville and how did anyone survive at all. Millie Starr

    3. Due to divorce I didn't get a chance to know my father's early life. I knew him as a kind, gentle, well-mannered, loving man; but knew little of his interesting past. H Weston EYRE grew up in a long line of the family dating back to 1682 in Delaware county. He was very athletic and in his early days boxed until he almost killed a man; played baseball for a NY Yankee farm team as a third baseman, bowled until very late in life, loved playing horse shoes. He had two sons who died young that I never knew about until after his own death. He had a son I never met. He was an accountant all of his life, a died in the wool Democrat despite have an uncle extremely active in the Delaware county Republican party. His mother's family dated back to 1665 Delaware county.

    3. Great Question!! I would invite my second great grandfather, Isaac A. Everly, who was born 1849 in Pottstown. I'm sure Isaac had a lot of stories to tell. Like many in that time period, he moved frequently - with his parents in Ohio County VA in 1850, Belmont County OH in 1860 & 1870, Richardson County NE in 1880, McDonald County MO by 1885, and ended up in Tulsa County OK in 1920. Isaac was married at least three times. His older brother Oliver served in the Union Army from Ohio, and his uncle Billy Binder was in the traveling wild west shows.

    3. I'd like to invite Esther Lodge. She had an illigamate son Jacob Grubb and I'd like to learn who his father was. What happened, (did someone hurt her?) is the man she ended up marrying the Ebenezer the father of her child. What was is like being a Quaker, how come she died so young (40ish)? Does anyone know why they moved to the states. Was if for religious freedom or did they become Quakers after their arrival in the states. I 'guess there is a lot I'd like to learn from her. Then I'd also have questions for her ancestors. What was it like coming to America?? Etc. -----Original Message----- From: pacheste-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:pacheste-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Mary D Sent: Monday, November 20, 2006 12:14 PM To: PACHEST-L Subject: Re: [PACHESTE] Who would you like to come for Thanksgiving Dinner ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to PACHESTE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. I would love to invite my Daniel Baker and Tamor nee Sharp and their children. I would love for them to straighten me out on what Baker Line I belong to???? I would love to know where in Middletown did they live in 1870-1880 as I do now in 2006. I would love to know how coincidental is that Tamor's sister who also married a Baker, Washington R. Baker and how he's related, but also their address is of Glenloch, Malvern, Chester Co as mine is Glenloch, Delaware Co???? I would also like to know why is it in ever generation siblings married siblings of other families and although that has been helpful in finding them its also down right eerie and confusing to say the least. I can't imagine how it was for the offsprings of these folk! Did it make them double cousins????? Last but not least, I would like to know where Daniel Baker and Tamor are buried and why they didn't keep a bible to help me out here with all their descendants names like the Yarnall's Broomalls, Worrells, Hannums, Hamptons, Kemps, Markwoods, & Greens, not only once but like I mentioned twice married into in some cases. Did they not know having seven children was going to bring havoc to this 5x great grand daughter? lol Happy Thanksgiving Esther Fetsko Daniel Baker,1830-1883 married 1857: Tamor Sharp,1837-1916------2nd marriage, 1885: Charles Hannum, (d/o: Samuel Sharp,1800-1873, Susanna Evans,1800-1887)-(siblings: Phoebe Bake, Annie Essig, Abigail Yarnall) children: John Baker, 1858-1936,(siblings: Sarah Broomall, Henry Baker, William Baker, Samuel Baker, Margaret Fossett, Mary, Hannum, Hampton, Kemp) wife: Ida R. 3. I would love to invite my father, Charles Finley Lewis, born in Illinois in 1905. He died in 1971--and only after that did I get serious about genealogy. Based on what little info he had, with some help from his younger brother George, who died in 1998, I was able to track down their parents--both raised in an orphanage in Ohio--grandparents, greats, etc.--back to Philip Lewis who served in the Revolution in Chester Co. PA. (and maybe back to his father, another Philip Lewis of Chester, but that one's still a bit shaky!). My only living brother is also Philip Lewis-by sheer accident. He was named for my mother's grandfather who lived in Georgia! I'd also get great glee out of telling my father these Lewises were Baptists in PA. He always teased my mother about her very Baptist upbringing. Guess what, Dad? I'd like to tell my father all this--he'd find both the history and the research process fascinating. He was a man of great intellectual curiosity, and while he was an engineer, history of any sort was his secret passion. I've had many conversations with him about all this family history--all in my head. It would be wonderful to really TALK to him about it and get his reactions. Of course, I'd have to serve steak for Thanksgiving--he hated turkey. <<grin>> Karen Lewis Dale Larkspur CO
