    2. Karen Howland
    3. Dear Fellow Listers, I've been gone from the List for awhile and though I would post my Chester Co. family once again. Especially since I have found out more about the family. I'm looking for decendants of my g-g-g-g grandfather's siblings. Thomas Bowker b.1815 Yorkshire, Eng., d. 1893 Chester Co., Pa. He married Eliza Ellam who was born in Yorkshire abt. 1812, I have no death date for her. They immigrated from England about 1848. All of their children except the youngest, Joseph was born in England. Martha Ann b.1835, married David S. McCurdy 1856 and had 8 children. They moved to ILL. John b. 1837 and married Mary Priest. (My line) Sarah b. abt. 1839 married Jonathan R. Holland 1867 Mary b. 1843 Ellen b. 1847 Eliza b. 1845 married George R. Van Leer abt. 1875 Joseph b. 1849 and died age 20 in Chester Co. I've tracked this branch back to Yorkshire and have baptism records for 4 of the children and have them on the 1841 Census in Yorkshire and then next have them in Chester Co. where Thomas and Eliza died. I known they lived in East and West Whiteland Twp. and Willistown on census' and know That Thomas was a Mason. I am looking for family. I would like to find Mary, and Ellen and any descendants. Thanks, Karen

    1. [PACHESTE] Delaware County American (newspaper), published in Media, PA
    2. Good morning lists, Does anyone have access to the "Delaware County American " (newspaper), published in Media, PA? I'm interested in the time period from 1855 to 1873. Please do a lookup for me on a James? LENN(E)Y regarding a lawsuit with the War Dept.? (The LENNY family apparently owned a shoe manufactory, first at Leiperville, then at 525 Market Street in Chester.  At some point, at the time of the Civil War, or soon thereafter they lost a lawsuit vs. the U.S. Government in the Supreme Court over the quality of a shipment of shoes provided to the Union Army.) I had a search done of the Federal District Court & Circuit Court, also the Supreme Court of PA & nothing was found. I have been told by Bob PLOWMAN it must have been brought against LENNY by the "War Department." If I could get some info from the newspaper(s) & the date it happened I might be able to figure out how to get a copy of the lawsuit. Thank you very much for any help or suggestions. :) Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS) ************************************** See what's free at http://www.aol.com.

    2. Jo's Family Tree
    3. For anyone researching George Stoneback 1810-1880 married to Anne (anna) Houck, I have a question. George Stoneback would have been my grandmother's great-grandfather, her grandfather was Samuel K. Stoneback (Susanna Keim). I'm going through all my trunks and photos and I have come across a photo. On the back she wrote, "Geo Stoneback, Lyla's Great-Grandfather" I have hundreds of photos that belonged to my grandmother. There was only one photo that I found an error on out of all of them. However, I wonder about this photo -- if it could possibly be correct. I don't know much about the history of photographs, but this appears to be a tin-type, and it's in a blue paper envelope type thing. His hand rests on a rock thing. I was just wondering if it were even possible age-wise for this to really be him. If anyone could help me date this photo, I would be very grateful. Grandmother was very accurate with all her descriptions on the photos, so based on that alone, I have no reason to doubt. I just want to double-check. If you'd like to see the photo, email me and I'll send it. Thanks, Jo

    3. Lee.......... There is a BIO on the Berks Co Board about a John SPONAGLE with some of his children being in Chester Co. There was a son George and a John. You may want to go thru it to see if any connection to the ones you are looking for. Go to www.rootsweb.com/~paberks/ click on 'Montgomery Project' in the left sidebar. Then scroll down the right side of the new page to 'marriages indexes' and look for a George SPONAGLE in the male index names. Click on the name and it will bring up the page in the book - 'History of Berks Co' by Morton Montgomery, pub 1909. George is in 2 diff BIOs.....Based on the info he was born 1810 died 1895, age 85. He had brothers John and Samuel and a sister Mary m Albert BELL of Robeson. They seemed to be Meth/Episcopal. Maybe the brother John is related to yours? Diana in AL ------------------------------------------------------ Leon/Lee Blauvelt <lblauvelt@cas.org> sent on 6/6/2007: SPONAGLE - AMOLE - Hannah Amole Sponagle Back in 2002 I asked for help finding information on a George Sponagle/Sponaugle or Hannah Amole (08/13/1787 - 09/16/1868) (81-1-3). I got the names from a piece of paper found in a family Bible that listed the grandparents of one my ancestors sisters. (Parents were Andrew Stauffer and Leah Sponagle) While browsing through some online records of the Chester County Archives, I found the following (combined and reformatted for this email). Chester County Archives Poor School Children 1810 - 1842 Year Name Township Children (Comments)(Relationship) 1828 Amole W Nantmeal Michael (7) (Living with John Spronagle) 1828 Spronagle John W Nantmeal Rosanna (5), Michael Amole (7) (Relationship - Stepchild - (Michael) 1829 Amole W Nantmeal Michael (8), Anna (6) (Living with John Sponogle) 1829 Sponogle John W Nantmeal Michael Amole (8), Anna Amole (6) 1831 Amole W Nantmeal Michael (10), Rosanna (8) (Living with John Sponagle) 1831 Sponagle John W Nantmeal Michael Amole (10), Rosanna Amole (8) (Relationship - Stepchildren) 1832 Amole W Nantmeal Michael (11), Rosanna (9) (Living with Hannah Sonangle) 1832 Sonangle Hannah W Nantmeal Michael Amole (11), Rosanna Amole (9) 1832 Sponangle John W Nantmeal Elizabeth L. Since, the children are John's stepchildren in 1828 and the youngest is 5, that would also suggest that the Amole marriage to Hannah ended between 1822 and 1828. There is no relationship note regarding Elizabeth (born around 1827). Depending on who her father was, it should make Hannah's Amole marriage ending range to be 1822-1825 1/2 OR 1825 1/2 - 1828. Also, in looking for Hannah's parents, I now have no idea what her maiden name was. If anybody has information on any of these families, I would appreciate the info. Thank you.
