Hi Dori, Chester Hospital is in the city of Chester in Delaware Co., PA but what county did he die in? Could it have been Chester Co.? Gail was great in finding the info below & it mentions Irvin RAFF was b. in Cape May -- now is that Cape May Co.? He died in Chester -- now is that Chester Co.? If you send for a death certificate & give the correct date but the WRONG county they will not be able to find the death certificate. Was there a West Chester Hospital in West Chester? What about a hospital in Wilmington, DE? Of course, search for a will or administration & from it you will get the date of Irvin's death. Search these cemetery websites & you might be able to find out where he is buried: Cemetery Records | Find A Grave** - Millions http://www.findagrave.com/ Cemetery Records & Online Memorials Find a grave http://www.findagrave.com/cgi-bin/fg.cgi?page=gsr&GSfn=&GSmn=&GSln=FOUSE& GSbyrel=all&GSby=&GSdyrel=all&GSdy=&GSst=40&GSob=n Cemetery -The Association for Gravestone Studies - Home http://www.gravestonestudies.org/ Cemetery *The USGenWeb Tombstone Transcription Project http://www.rootsweb.com/%7Ecemetery/ I don't know if all this helps but I thought I would mention it. Irvin Raff Born: Cape May, [county], New Jersey, USA Died: Chester, [county], Pennsylvania, USA I suggest you tell your cousin that, rather than repeated asking for a lookup for the same year, he/she try instead asking for other years like 1936, 1938, 1939, since a child's memory is quite often cloudy. If a record existed for 1937, it would have been found by now. Hi list, I'm just passing this info on to you as requested! :) Happy hunting, Helen In the last few weeks, the Pennsylvania Archives has added some remarkable free online resources to the already-available Warrant Registers at: http://www.phmc.state.pa.us/bah/dam/landrec.htm "Scanned Land Records" These pages include instructions on how to search the records, and an abbreviated history behind the early process of recording the land transactions. I've been ordering these survey maps from the Archives for seven years for mapping purposes and it is truly a wonderful addition to online research to be able to avoid the cost and time of waiting for search results and photocopies of survey maps, warrants, and patents to arrive by snail mail. In addition, the Archives may, in the near future, accept volunteer help in transcribing the already easy-to-read records so in the future a database can be searched rather than having to review page-by-page hundreds (likely thousands) of pages. Possibly RootsWeb could help the Archives to organize this effort. Specifically the resources are: Warrant Registers Patent Indexes Copied Survey Books Patent Tract Name Index East Side Applications (Register) West Side Applications (Register) New Purchase Register Please pass on as I am only e-mailed the Pennsylvania lists pertaining to my research! Hello listers -- Just today I received information from LDS in SLC in answer to my recent query on how to obtain a copy of a marriage record in 1854. I was under the impression that no state records were available for that particular time. FamilySearch provided a film number which they say contains all of the above for Counties Chester through Indiana, held in the PA State Archives. If this is of interest to you, write to me privately I will be happy to share the information Dori ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour

Hello listers - - At long last I now have a marriage date for g-g-gr parents John Henry Lascum and Charlotte Canning - - - - February 21, 1854. Recently discovered data indicates that they were married in Ridley (Twp?), Delaware County, Pennsylvania. Charlotte was Catholic, John was not - - - and I have no way to know in what church they may have been married. Are there any civil marriage records available for 1854? Probably not -- so, does anyone have access to any church records for this year? Any and all information is most gratefully appreciated, and thank you. Hello, I am looking for some help in sorting out the various Thomas Woodwards in Chester County. I have been working to determine which Thomas Woodward married Rebecca Millard about 1800. He died, intestate, in 1808 in W. Nantmeal Twp, and she died in 1849, and is buried at St. Mary's in Warwick. I have been in contact with a number of people who are probably on both of the Chester County lists. I have made several trips to CCHS, CCA, and the Tri-County Heritage Society. I just joined the PA-OLD-CHESTER list this week, and browsed the archives also. I want to summarize my thoughts, and ask both lists for your help. Of the 8 or 9 Thomas Woodwards, I can find on Nadine Holder's Woodward site, in the Lewis Woodward book, and several WorldConnect trees, I have ruled out all but one, based on their marrying other women, or their age. The remaining logical candidate is the Thomas Woodward born abt. 1774 to Richard Woodward(1754) and his first wife. Lewis Woodward names her Martha _______, and says she bore him four children. Barclay Richard supplied the surname Clayton to her, but I don't know why. Martha dying, he married the widow Elizabeth Carrington(nee Pyle). Neither Lewis Woodward nor Nadine have much for dates on any of these children of Richard Woodward(1754) and these two wives. There was a Thomas Woodward who was "accused by a young woman & c" "and the next month he married her" - as reported at Bradford MM in the third month of 1800. I have seen the microfilm at Swarthmore, which says he was counseled, with an apparently unacceptable response, and disowned. Nowhere do these meeting notes say who he was(whose son?), or who she was. Nor have I yet found an 1800 marriage in any other Chester County church record. This could be the Thomas(b. abt 1774) I'm trying to tie to Richard(1754) and Martha Clayton, or it could be the Thomas(b. 10/6/1774 at Bradford MM to Robert, b. 1/19/1742 and Jane Sheward(as spelled by Barclay Richard)) who married Susan Ingram. I don't have their marriage date, but property records at CCA tie this Thomas and wife Susan to his father Robert in E. Bradford. Tax lists and land records in W. Nantmeal show my Thomas was an inmate and owned no property. That's my Woodward brick wall in Chester County, and I would greatly appreciate any help you can provide, or suggestions for further research. I figure that if I can find someone researching the Clayton surname in Chester County, maybe they will have something on the marriage and children of Martha Clayton and Richard Woodward. Good morning list, Would anyone happen to have information about the Baptist Church Cemetery in Radnor, especially the old sexton records? Kathy contacted me about a year ago looking for info & has found the following but she has not been able to find the sexton records: "From what I understand, the old church was torn down in 1951, when Louis Filipone purchased the church and built his family hardware store... which is now owned by Albert and Georgette Voehringer. For what I have learned, the cemetery seems to be in trust with Wachovia Bank, but it is very sketchy. Wachovia bank sent copies of the deed (showing the purchase in 1951 and then again in 1984 to the Voehringer). I spoke with Georgette and she confirmed the story... I also spoke with Bobby Filipone (son of Louis Filipone, who originally purchased the old church)." I spoke to a "Claire" back then, by phone, trying to find info for Kathy about the Baptist Church Cemetery in Radnor but I have since lost her phone #. Would anyone happen to know "Claire" & have her phone #? Please e-mail off list. Thank you for any help you can give us. :) Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS) ************************************** Get a sneak peak of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
"They" say it helps if you can determine the religious affiliation of your ancestors. That this should be helpful in determining what church and location they may have lived. Well, I can go back 4 generations with church affiliation or burials in church cem. Since there are several different denominations, I'm hoping someone may be able to suggestion a common thread that may help in determining the religious affiliation of their ancestors. This is what I have and I'm open for suggestions: Father, John Righter, b. 1914 MD. d 1982 FL, raised Presbyterian G-father, Richard M.
