Hi Dori, Playing catch-up on my emails. Not sure if you got your answer the hospital question. The was and still is a hospital called "Chester Co Hospital" that sits smack dab in the middle of West Chester, PA. It is in the county of Chester but not in the city of Chester. I hope I didn't make this more confusing. Just my 2 cents worth. Kathy Dulin-Doedderlein Be an organ donor :) Photos - http://picasaweb.google.com/kdulind
Just to clarify who owns who: The Generations Network is the umbrella for: MyFamily.com Ancestry.com rootsweb.com genealogy.com ancestry.co.uk (United Kingdom) ancestry.ca (Canada) ancestry.com.au (Austratlia) ancestry.de (Germany - the first of theirs in German) ancestry.it (Italy - in native language)) ancestry.fr (France - same) see their link: http://www.tgn.com/default.aspx?html=overview There are free items in each...such as message boards for surnames and countries/counties under Ancestry and Genealogy.com in their 'communities' section. MyFamily has a fee usually paid by the person who starts it and sends invites to othes to join, as it is for people who want privacy. All of rootsweb.com is free......Most require a userid/name and password. Ancestry.com has a monthly or yearly fee depending on what or how long you wish to use their data and images, etc., as does genealogy.com. I am curious about this. Ancestry used to have free websites wherein you could post your info - I had one for several years - then, they decided to start charging for them.....and so I let mine go. Ah, I see from the message below that there IS a charge for these websites. Hmmm, wouldn't you be better off getting free space like at MSN Groups or at blogspot? I have a blogspot page that I use for posting family pictures, and also one that I use to post census images rather than bog things down with sending them via email....and blogspot is free...you can post whatever you want. -----Original Message----- From: pacheste-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:pacheste-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Susan J Avery Sent: Wednesday, September 12, 2007 5:30 AM To: alenkner@stargate.net Cc: PACHESTE@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [PACHESTE] Web Site Yes, ancestry runs rootsweb (which is free) as it does these rootsweb mailing lists which we are on right now! : ) I've never paid to join ancestry.com feeling that the information they provide should be free to everyone. Can you search for family names on MyFamily.com? What are the best sites to search for ancesters born in the U.S.? And there we are -- full circle! I guess I knew that but didn't think. I had just been on the phone yesterday with ancestry with a question about my accounts at both my family and ancestry, so I had that on my mind. Nonetheless, I still love My Family and think it's a great tool. My Family is not run by rootsweb, it's run by Ancestry. I have a site and I love it. I only have close cousins as members. I am a member of another My Family site that has many, many members and it is wonderful. Lots of sharing, researching, documents -- I highly recommend it. Easy to navigate, too. MyFamily is a wonderful and very easy to use website in which you can invite members to join and all can share information, pictures, history etc... costs abt. $40 a year and if part of a group you can share in the costs. You would be administrator and you can designate anyone you wish as co-administrators. I am part of about 10 of them and love them. I'd stay away from Yahoo though. Spammers have infiltrated it horribly. We're still getting some nasty spam from a site that hasn't been used in a several years. Hi list, While transcribing the E. F. WHITE Corner & Undertaker Records, I came across this notation at the top of a page: Blizzard started 2: 00 PM, Sunday, March 1st , 1914. SWEENEY, Johanna d.(1) Mar 1914, IHC - 1413 W 2nd St. - as soon as road is open, big blizzard all roads shut. Buried 3 Mar 1914. (Diphtheria) In all the other records, I have never found weather conditions mentioned. If you had relatives that died around this date it might give you an insight as to how -- from diphtheria? Hi list, A friend sent me the following -- I don't think it has been posted as yet! :D http://www.loc.gov/chroniclingamerica/ Hi Helen, Here is a website that might be of interest to you and your list of genealogy researchers, if you don't already have it. It's from the Library of Congress and it has a search engine for some newspapers from the years: 1900 to 1910 from the following states: California, District of Columbia, Florida, Kentucky, New York, Utah, and Virginia. It's free too! (Left hand column.) Although, I didn't find anyone (but then again, I don't have family in those states), a friend of mine did and found it to be really helpful. ************************************** Get a sneak peek of the all-new AOL at http://discover.aol.com/memed/aolcom30tour
