    1. [PACHESTE] CHAMBERLAIN FAMILY 1770--1790 CHESTER CO.
    2. Hello, I am looking for anyone who is researching their CHAMBERLAIN FAMILY in Chester County in the late 1700's. I would love to hear from you. My ancestor was NOAH CHAMBERLAIN born bet 1760-1770 and married a JANE? probably in Chester Co...... They migrated to Ohio and were found in early Trumbull County, Ohio in 1806. From JANE CHAMBERLAIN's obituary, I found out she was from Chester Co. Pa. Paula Swope Oakland, Iowa 51560

    3. Chris: I don't know of a Jacob Landis in Coventry, but I do have Daniel Landis who died 1878 in N Coventry (was born in 1803). He was married to Elizabeth JONES (1810-1867). They lived in Warwick Twp and then when ELizabeth died in 1867, Daniel moved to N Coventry. I have also found a Peter LANDIS who was married to Elizabeth SPRINGER, dau of Daniel and ELizabeth SPRINGER of Pikeland. I have not been able to find connections except thru the elder Elizabeth SPRINGER's will of 1834, proved 1838 where she mentions two grandchildren, Daniel and Barbara LANDIS and her son-in-law Peter Landis. but leaves her estate to her son Jacob SPRINGER. Her daughter, Elizabeth SPRINGER LANDIS had previously died and she directed her son Jacob to purchase head and foot stones for her grave. Do you know of any of these LANDIS or SPRINGERs? I don't have more definitive dates for Peter Landis other than what I've seen on the list: 1796-1867. This would negate them being my Daniel LANDIS' parents since he was born in 1803. In Alabama, Diana

    3. Dora, Delaware City is a little historical town in New Castle County, Delaware on or near the C&D Canal. I have a close friend whose family has lived in Delaware City for 60 years or more. I'd be happy to ask her where historical records for the town are kept or if the family knew of any Sadlers. We work together also. My guess is you could try either the Delaware Historical Society in Wilmington, Delaware or, I know the archives are kept in Dover, Delaware. Yours, Judy Kaufman Landenberg, PA

    1. [PACHESTE] Jacob Landis/Mary Cochenhour - Sarah Slifer/Sliver
    2. Chris Lehr
    3. I know we have some Landis researchers out there. I'd like to know if anyone knows where Jacob Landis who married Mary Cochenhour between 1783 - 1794 fits into the Landis family. He is mentioned in a few deeds as the husband of Mary Cochenhour (all sorts of spellings). They inherited land some years after the death of her father, John Cochenhour. He died intestate about 1780 or just before then. The land was in Coventry - about 327 acres or thereabouts. It was previously owned by John's father, Henry Cochenhour and previous to that was owned by the Enger family (before 1754). Also mentioned in these deeds as well as some orphan court records is the widow of John Cochenhour, Sarah. It appears that she may have remarried someone with the surname Slifer/Sliver. Possibly an Abraham Slifer. Time period would be about 1780 - 1782. Any help with this particular Jacob Landis, the Cochenhour family or the possible marriage to the Slifer family would be greatly appreciated. Thank you. Northern Liberties, City of Philadelphia. Blacksmith. December 6, 1804. November 4, 1805. 1.387. Wife: Barbara Stricker if she remains his widow to have income of all estate, if she marries, her thirds. Bequest to son-in-law Daniel Groves. Monies due from Adam Baker. Property in Philadelphia to dau. Elizabeth Groves. To sons Daniel and Adam Stricker property purchased of George and A. Snyder. To dau. Ann Stricker ground next to Jacob Anthony's. Income from Peter Gable. Exec: Wife Barbara and two sons Daniel and Adam Stricker. Witnesses: Joseph Hart, Michael Magrath. This is the only mention of a Peter Gable on the whole CD, so I have included it. There are no Gable mentions in Chester wills, and none in Lancaster from 1832 through 1820. Also, nothing for Glauner or Raeser, but I would imagine these may have other spellings. I just had no luck at all...none of the surnames appeared on the CD of church records of some areas of PA 1600-1800s or PA vital records 1700s-1800s...and, they aren't in F & C's index. http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/isearch there are 135 mentions of a Peter gable in the genweb archives....have you looked through them all? 1. [PACHESTE] Julia SADLER m 1908 Willard T Smith
    2. Dora Smith
    3. I"m looking for the family of Julia Rebecca C. Sadler, who on 28th August, 1908, married Willard Thompson Smith. Family records don't say where. It would have been somewehre in northern Delaware, southeastern Chester County, Pennsylvania, or in Philadelphia. POSSIBLY but not very likely, it was in Salt Lake City, Utah. I think that in 1908, my great uncle, Willard Thompson Smith, was still serving his term in the Delaware legislature and had not yet gone to Utah, where he served in Salt Lake City as a special agent for the U.S. land office. His parents and siblings all lived in Philadelphia by 1908. The family all lived on the family farm in White Clay Creek, near Newark, New Castle County, Delaware, on teh border with Chester County, Pennsylvania, until just after 1900. But the 1900 census index makes it look as though Willard, who was serving the first of two terms on teh five man Delaware state Board of Education, was living in someothing like Red Lion Hundred at the time. I have access to the 1900 census but have not yet had time to check. Willard T Smith died in Salt Lake City in 1925, and I would think it is likely his widow and any children, which I understand there were some, returned home wherever that was. My father, who is 81, dying of cancer, and beginning to lose it, wrote me a very nice but confused letter that mentions a family of children named Catherine, Bill, Frank and Jim the twins, and Judy. He outright states he isn't sure which widow's children these were. There is another sibling of my grandfather I as yet know nothing about. He also mentions that he thinks this bunch of children, who I guess were orphaned, and one of them was taken in by my father's father's sister Mayme, lived in Delaware City, wherever that is, at some point. And he mentions the Sadlers, plural. I don't know if these kids were Sadlers, children of Willard and Julia, or children of somebody else. 3. Charles, I've had lots of success by going to my own local public library and doing an inter-library loan for the newspaper I need. Your library should have a copy of "Newspapers in Microform: United States". It lists all of the newspapers on microfilm and where they are located. Find the name of the closest town or county where your person died and the name of the newspaper in that area during the time you need. Then ask your librarian to request an interlibrary loan. It may take a few weeks, but usually they are free and you have about two weeks to read them. I then just take a photocopy of the pages I want. Sharon S_Foree@Prodigy.net
