    3. Rain and all, I made visits today to the Nantmeal Village Methodist Church cemetery and, on a whim (thank goodness), re-visited St. Anthony's Episcopal Church cemetery at Ludwig's Corner. To all of you who requested I look for your ancestors, I must first say I found no traces of Downing, Titlow, Hawk, Buller, or Pearsal/Piersol. I did, however, find one McCurdy and a "ton" of Chrisman ancestors, as follows (a ? indicates the date was difficult to read and therefore unclear): Isaac Chrisman (8/25/1819 - 6/24/1888) and wife Sara Anderson (1/29/1818-10/10/1892) Sarah Chrisman Irey, 1856-1924, and daughter Helen Irey 7/2/1884 - 11/21/1894 John Wesely Chrisman, 1862??? This Wetzel family spent the early years in Rockingham County and Shenandoah County, Virginia and then migrated to western Pennsylvania, near the Ohio border. What's interesting is that the obit said that Catherine was a "cousin" to Lewis. Lewis had no children. So, any relationship from his immediate family would have to be that of Uncle. Maybe I'm missing some logic here--I hope not. But, in order to be a cousin I wonder if Catherine was related to a brother of Lewis's and my ancestor Eva Christina Wetzel's father ---John Wetzel b. 1733, presumably Holland and married to Mary Bonnett. This John's father was Johannes Martin Wetzel born about 1700 from Baden, Germany. Johannes Martin Wetzel was the original immigrant. He is said to have died in Maryland. I have his wife as Maria Barbara ?---b 1698 from Hereford, Berks County, Pa. So, perhaps John had a brother who lived in Chester County, just next door to Berks--? Ray

    3. Thanks Sharon, for those terrific ideas about what can and cannot be proven. On the other hand-----I for one have traced roots where----- I found a skeleton! Much to the dismay of my older family members 30 years ago. Yes, we follow these written historical accounts. But, you know what! Girls will be girls and Boys will be boys. That is a trueism throughout the history of the human race. So, in essence the study of genealogy, as we move from one family to another by written record, has a basic erroneous assumption. That names on records are (biologically) correct. ----- And this is interesting --though maybe politically incorrect-- In studying one's direct ancestoral lines--it is only the female that can make it incorrect, through adultery. Think about it. So, we do what we can and have faith. Like all of you, I love the exercise. But, we will never Really know! Ray
