    1. [PACHESTE] Putting things in order
    2. PLEASE TAKE NOTE: The use of the term REDSKIN is flammatory to anyone of Native American Ancestry. It is no different then calling an African American person the N word. I kindly ask anyone referring to me, to call me by my given name of Mary Jane or BrightStar. But if you feel you must call me by my screen name, it is Redski not Redskin. I don't know how my post got on three list. I only belong to two of them. So you may want to forward this explaination of past conversation reguarding, my personal feelings on Historical Societys. DORA- I'm replying to Helen's concern about something REDSKIN wrote in defense of county historical societies. I don't know if Helen rightly thinks that REDSKIN was talking about her - in fact, I thought she was both talking about me, and talking to me. Mary Jane-- Point # 1- I wrote in defense of Historical Societys as a whole and Libarians as well. This is my feeling about it. It was not in confronting way.And it had nothing to do with your post or anything Helen thought.. Dora-- I also thought it might just be something the person who posted that note just happened to feel strongly about. In fact, I didn't realize she'd posted it to the list, thought she'd just sent it to me, now, let's hope when I check out what she wrote about that I thought that, we don't all burst out laughing, I'm so out of it. Mary Jane # 2-- I never sent this to you Dora. I sent this to the list and to Helen. And your right, this is how I feel about any agency that protects and persearves my family history or our Historical sites. Dora-- She wrote something about giving me more than what I had asked or something. I wrote back, alright, a woman after my own heart! I agree that MOST county historical societies do a really great job... Mary Jane #3 You asked the question, "How is Judge Kelly involved in this?" My reply was: In a message dated 8/28/00 8:59:16 PM Eastern Daylight Time, tiggernut_48@yahoo.com writes: << I missed it -how is Judge Kelly involved in this? >> Hi Dora, I was inquiring about Judge Kelly. I just wanted to know if he was still at Media courthhouse, as a judge. I have known him for many years, and thought I would give his office a call.He has alaways cared about Delaware Co. and it's residents. And he is a great person. If my memory serves me right, their is almost no important position in Del. Co. that you don't need pull to get.Somtimes you have to go to someone with more pull in the Co., to get anything done. And even more so, if the person is a county worker.I think you guys on the list have great ideas and I am ready to follow your lead.I would be more then willing to give him a call, and I think I will. I will at least ask him who he thinks the best person to complain about all of this is.I also think that we need to stand behind our Historical Societys. I have no trouble from those folks. And they work very hard at what they do. Same with some of the small town libarians. I love DELCO, but honestly, some of those at Media Courthouse, act like your taking money from their pockets and their family history.I suppose what I fear most is Big Goverment getting involved with our family geneology. Down here in Florida, were I am now, some are really ticked off that their family records can be looked at.And if Congress had it's way, we would be paying 5cents for every piece of e-mail we send.Anyway, I know I answered a bit more then your question, but this is how I feel about it. Mary Jane Bright Star FOR THE RECORD: I support DELCO and all researchers in their quest for public family info, as mentioned in the rules of the FOIA.

    3. B could be P, F, or V. One possibility is that Blue Pig is some transliteration of a Pennsylvania Dutch name. In that case, you need to know something of German phonetics. B could conceivably be P or F. Ue could be u, or o. Pronounced the complete range of ways those two letters are pronounced. final g could be c, k, ck, ch, or x. "i" could be e, or "eu" often pronounced like in boy. Also, there could well have been a weak consonent in this name somewhere, like a "r", an "h", or a "y". Or an "l". Best bet is still to write out where we know these people were - and consult a gazeteer. 3. Frank: This one's got my imagination, now. I almost said, but I just saw one of those gallop by! We could use more clues. From where exactly did you hear or see the name "Blue Pig"? If it was written, exactly what did it say? Was it written, or did someone in your family say something that sounded like "Blue Pig"? When was she born, when did she marry, and when did she die? And in what county is Fremont, Pennsylvania? Do you happen to know where Fremont Cooper was from, and where he went? 3. Well, I got the REDSKIN was writing to me part right. If she posted to three lists, I'm sure I deleted the repetitive messages. Since she addressed her note to me, it isn't unlikely that she was commenting on what I posted about my experience in Mifflin County. Since I always delete duplicate postings, I wouldn't know whether DENEWCAS list has previously been in on this thread or not - and I apologize if they weren't. Most of this entire discussion has taken place on three lists, and it looks as though Helen replied to all of them. 3. Ian: Before you go to all this trouble, it isn't clear why you need someone to look this stuff up for you? In what time period are these marriages and deaths? If before 1885, then yup, you need lookups. And you might find the information that way. If since 1890 something, you get the info by writing to Vital Records at New Castle, Pennsylvania (not Delaware). I don't know the address off hand, but someone will chip it in. Unless they lived in any of certain large cities, in which case you would write to the city. Examples are Harrisburg, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia. 1. [PACHESTE] Adoption in Delaware Co., PA
    2. About adoption in Delaware County: I would address a letter to the President Judge Joseph F. BATTLE, to get a court-order to open these adoption records. I would send the letter registered or certified before you make a trip for the adoption records. If you are the birth parent or the child that has been adopted, you may want to fill out a form in the Register of Wills Office, giving them permission to give out information on you to who ever is interested in that info. I understand there is another way to find out info, other than going through the adoption records at the court house, but I have not found out how this side track method works yet! You may also want to check out: <A HREF="http://members.tripod.com/rombergers/searchlist.html">PA Adoption</A> http://members.tripod.com/rombergers/searchlist.html If you are a birthparent looking for a child you put up for adoption & you do not know his/her/their name(s)--you use their birthdate to find them. I understand you can have a driver's license search done on that birthdate & whether male or female--this will narrow your search down. It will give you a list of those born on that date in that State I have never used the following but I came across it while surfing on the web. <A HREF="http://locateme.com/step1.htm">$50.00 Person Locator</A> http://locateme.com/step1.htm If you think the child/parent may have graduated from a certain high school, contact others who may have graduated with them & ask them if they know a boy or girl in their graduating class who talked about being adopted or had a certain birthday. Some yearbooks give out the students birthdays. And do the same to find a birthparent, ask did any girls have to leave school because they were pregnant? <A HREF="http://www.highschoolalumni.com/">High School Alumni- </A> http://www.highschoolalumni.com/ <A HREF="http://www.classmates.com/index.tf?">High School ClassMates.Com - Welcome to ClassMates</A> http://www.classmates.com/index.tf? <A HREF="http://www.gradfinder.com/">High School Gradfinder - Keeping people in touch around the…</A> http://www.gradfinder.com/ If you make a phone call to the person you are looking for: mother for daughter or daughter for mother you will be able to tell right away if it is your mother or if it is your daughter by her voice!! Think of what I'm saying here, when you call someone's house, don't you have to listen closely to see if it is the mother or daughter, (father or son) ??? :) This works for fathers & sons, too. Now you do have to consider smoking, old age & other factors that will change the voice to some degree! Happy hunting, Helen (DCGS)
