I would like to contact the Tredyffrin-Easttown History club I think my g grandfather Joseph LEWIS was born in Tredyffrin, and his 2nd wife Sarah Ann RAMSEY was from Easttown. I haven't beeen able to find out anything about when and where Joseph died and is buried, nor where Sarah died and is buried. I wold appreciate some clues pointing me where I might find out this information. Am ready and willing to share information about later generations of my LEWIS line. Bob Lewis <lewis@doorpi.net>
If there is anyone out there interested in African-American Genealogy, would you please contact me? I am on the list of contact people for Delaware County Genealogial Society in the area of African-American Genealogy. Please visit my web site: African-Americans in Chester & Delaware Counties <www.springhillfarm.com/broomhall/african.html> If there is anyone doing research on A-A genealogy in this area, I could start a contact list, or a surname registry to help you get in touch with others. Also I would welcome any links to sites of A-A interest, and would be glad to add more info to my web site, if you have any to contribute. I myself am not doing research on A-A genealogy, except to collect info on my web site, so I would welcome the input of those who actually ARE doing such research, so if anyone does contact me on this, I will know how to help them. Thanks very much- Anne Broomall Wiegle
I learned today that a local group, the Tredyffrin-Easttown History Club, has just published a short article/pamphlet about the History of Cedar Hollow. This area includes both the Salem Village and the Warner Quarry, a.k.a. Cedar Hollow Lime Company. Copies are $2.00 each. If folks are interested, I will make arrangements to get copies to distribute. I haven't seen it yet and I don't think it includes much in the way of pure genealogy, but has alot of oral history and info from the public records. Trying to connect Henry Sauers/Sours/Sowers of Virginia with the Sauers/Sours/Sowers of Pennsylvania. For example, those of Spring City, Chester County. Henry Sauers/Sours/Sowers probably arrived in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia in late 1760s. Family tradition states he came from Pennsylvania and his father was Balser. Henry appeared in Shenandoah County, Virginia Records during 1775-1792. He lived in the part of Shenandoah County that became part of Page County in 1831. Three of his sons were Balser, Henry and Frederick. The latter served in the Revolutionary War. I shall appreciate any information or comments anyone may have. Joe Baker
Hi Carolyn, Mauger's Funeral Home is still very much in business and is now known as Mauger-Givnish Funeral Home. Address is still 24 Monument Ave in Malvern, PA. Their telephone number is (610) 644-2240. I don't recall the name of the director now but they are extremely helpful looking up information on our genealogy questions. Most of my family's funerals have been handled by Mauger's. I'm also curious about the timeframe of your grandmother's involvement in the Dalton-Wanzel Post, No. 646 of Paoli. My father was an active member of this post for many years before his death in 1984. He also served as a president of their Home Association at one time, probably sometime around the late 60's, early 70's. I'm also familiar with Philadelphia Memorial Park. Debbie: Rachel Riker born in PA around 1800? Ew, boy. We'll have to keep in touch, but it sounds like any records might be kind of obscure. Do you know where the marriage took place? I just posted a url about the Ricker/ Riker family in Chestnut Level. (Drumore township, I think) You don't know about William's parents, or even about his children, do you? Someone wrote me about a Rickard family living in Chester County, PA descended from a Jacob, who moved there from where his Mennonite family had settled in Bucks County. In 1830, elderly John Riker and his middle aged wife and their children including a girl under five live in Cecil County, Maryland. In 1840, he isn't there, and John Rickard, an elderly man, lives in Chester County, with his middle aged wife, several near grown children and a girl between five and ten. He isn't there in either 1830, or 1850. In 1850, Thomas Moore lives in Lower Oxford township with his wife, Emaline, born around 1830 give or take a couple of years, and 60 year old Elizabeth Riker, who is I think her mother. Not easy to tell if the Riker and Rickard families were the same or which John was actually Emaline's father, since Rickard often became Rickard, and Emaline herself could not read or write. Then, when Thomas Moore turns up in Conestoga township in 1860, near some Richards, it isn't clear if these are Rikers who he came there to be near, or if maybe these are Rickards he was related to, but who migrated there from Chester County when or before he did. I would really be interested in knowing everything you have on these Rickards. I will search all the Ricker, Riker and Rickard households in Conestoga and Drumore townships in the 1870 census next time I get to the library - the Moore children may turn up in one of them. I'd better post this where others and I myself can find it; Tim Riker's Riker family history page covers two New York Riker families and a single southeastern Pennsylvania Richter become Ricker and Riker famliy that left descendants in Ohio, and in Chestnut Level, in Lancaster County, PA. A few miles from the Maryland border; members of this family could at times have strayed into both Cecil County, and the country immediately below York County, PA. Chestnut Level appears to be in Drumore township. About 12 miles north is Safe Harbor, in Conestoga township, which is immediately north of Drumore township - I think. It isn't easy to make out details on those online topographical maps! http://riker.dsl.inconnect.com/riker.htm Riker family history Yours, Dora Smith __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Re: Recent Rudolph Postings. Ann Mary Rudolph was born ca. 1762 and died 14 Aug. 1847, Page County, VA. She married Frederick Sours/Sowers/Sauer, son of Henry, 12 Mar. 1783, Shenandoah County, VA. They lived in the part of Shenandoah County that became Page County in 1831. The only other Rudolph living in the vicinity was Andrew Rudolph, who appeared on the Personal Property Tax List in 1783. No other Shenandoah County Record was found for Andrew. It is believed that Ann Mary and Andrew arrived in Shenandoah County from Pennsylvania. I am seeking further information on Ann Mary Rudolph and Andrew Rudolph, and especially the parents and place of birth of Ann Mary. Joe Baker
