Hopefully someone on this site can help me here...My Nicholas Lute was living in Chester Co. in 1769 and then migrated to Westmoreland Co. Apparently on tax lists from 1769 to 1771 on 100 acres of and and various farm animals. Was given this info several years ago and have not been able to find this myself... Are there tax records that early and where might I find them...also anyone that might have any info about Nicholas prior to that time would be welcome... A Roll Call is usually called for when a list has gotten very quiet. For Roll Call, you respond by listing the names/dates you are researching in that particular area. Often it perks up the list because members see names/dates they haven't seen in a while or were not aware were being researched...and the hope is that maybe someone might have some new info....It works basically as a reminder... While one person did complain, I assume they'd never been through a Roll Call before. In the case of a Roll Call, you should be quite aware of what will be listed in the message if "Roll Call" is in the subject line. ----- Original Message ----- From: "M. A. All you can do is keep bugging AOL until they change their settings. This happens a lot when an ISP upgrades its anti-spam software; suddenly Rootsweb list messages are seen as spam and blocked. Now I understand wny so many messages are bouncing on my list (pa-census-lookup) - all to AOL users.....All of you AOL users are going to have to unite and hound AOL... as I recall, this happened about 2-3 yrs ago with AOL when they issued their upgrade....in other words, they fixed it once, they can fix it again. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, January 04, 2004 2:33 PM Subject: [PACHESTE] TESTING emails to list > One of my other mailing lists has been experiencing severe problems with > bouncing emails from AOL users. I think we need to remember that there may be those who are new to genealogy and not familiar with how to post on these boards. We can share our knowledge without being rude. This may be the first time some have encountered the roll calls. We need to be patient with them as people were with us when we first started using these boards. Just my opinion. . Sharon
John Byng was born in Old Chester, 10 May 1773. I cannot find a thing. Carol

I'm one of those who has no idea what "roll call" means. I've belonged to this board for a while but never heard about Roll Call. Could someone let me know what it is and the proper protocol for it? Hi List, When doing genealogy research, in Delaware Co., we always wonder what the area looked like during a certain time period. Especially, when our ancestors/families lived & worked here. If we have pictures, to look at, it gives us a much better prospective on life -- then & now. (Sometimes giving us clues in regard to doing our genealogy research.) My daughter Jan, is interested in pictures of the City of Chester! How would she go about obtaining &/or purchasing these picture? Does anyone have pictures they might want to share? Do you know of anyone you could refer her to? Thank you very much for any help you can give her! :) Please contact her at: [email protected] Happy New Year, Helen
One of my other mailing lists has been experiencing severe problems with bouncing emails from AOL users. AOL recognizes our posts to the list as SPAM. This has been going on for several days. As a AOL user myself, I am testing out my post to other mailing lists that I am on to see if the same thing happens or if these lists are ok. If anyone has any suggestions on how to resolve this problem, please let me know. Many of us have already contacted AOL to no avail and our list mom is going crazy trying to keep up with the bounced emails. Sorry for any inconvenience to anyone on these other lists. Sharon
If we are going to have a roll call, the first rule that applies is that the subject line includes the surname you are researching. I guarantee that I will not open one that simply says "roll call". We've gone over this a zillion times and it still applies. Count me out - - - - I cannot help anyone if I don't know the surname, and I refuse to even open msgs that don't include it. Dori
