    2. I have the book on the Irish Quakers who came to PA, and of course there are hundreds of entries in it, so I'm not sure what would be helpful to you from those records. I also have the data of numerous English ancestors, minus the ship info. Almost without exception, these were all Quaker immegrants. Let me know what sort of participation you have in mind and how much time it might take, thanks -Kim -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] Sent: Apr 30, 2004 7:54 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [PACHESTE] Overveiw of the English & Irish (1600 only) Chester Co., PA area. 3. From the Wilmslow Parish area of CHESHIRE came many members of the JANNEY and BURGESS family in the 1680s, Thomas Janney and family went to BUCKS CO, as did most of the BURGESS immigrants. Also from Wilmslow, Styal in Pownall Fee township of Wilmslow Parish to be precise, came three PEARSON brothers, Thomas, John and Edward. Thomas and John PEARSON came aboard the ENDEAVOUR in 1683. Edward and his family came four years later. Edward, whose name was often spelled PIERSON, spent the first year or two in Darby, Chester County, and then moved on to BUCKS County. His wife Sarah was a BURGESS, and they were probably drawn to Bucks by the fact that several of Sarah's brothers went there and did well. Thomas PEARSON was married to Margery SMITH, daughter of Robert & Ellen WILLIAMSON SMITH of Styal. Her sister Mary SMITH was also aboard the ENDEAVOUR. Another sister, Ellen Smith COPPOCK, came to Chester County, and a brother, John Smith, came to Bucks County in the 1680s, but I cannot give the years offhand. In 1681-1683 Robert and Mary HAYES TAYLOR along with 7-9 children, came from Clatterwick in Great Budworth, Cheshire, to Chester County. Mary and most of the children were aboard the ENDEAVOUR, but Robert and two of the children came a year or two earlier. John and Mary WILLIAMSON HOWELL came aboard the ENDEAVOUR with their three daughters. Mary was from Stretton, daughter of Robert Williamson, Wheelwright. Her 17-year old brother Daniell Williamson was also on the ENDEAVOUR, ostensibly an indentured servant to Robert Taylor's family. He later married the Mary Smith mentioned above and was cuckolded by one of the Taylors (Josiah, to be specific) of Clatterwick. Another gang of folk from Cheshire and adjacent areas of Lancashire and Staffordshire came in 1682 aboard the SUBMISSION. They included BLACKSHAWs, PEMBERTONs, HARRISONs, and others. Many of them ended up in Philadelphia rather than Chester County. All of the people I have mentioned were QUAKERS. A lot of very similar people came to New Castle County, Delaware, immediately adjacent to Chester County, PA. John & Henry GRUBB (Quakers) came from Cornwall aboard the Kent in 1677. Richard BUFFINGTON, probably a Quaker, came from Buckinghamshire to the same area at about the same time. He and John Grubb engaged in some joint business ventures, and one of Grubb's daughters married one of Buffington's sons. Is this the kind of information you wanted? My George RALSTON of Philadelphia, had had Chester connections - his father, John, was always in Chester. I had thought I had found a George Jr who married Hannah, but it turns out he was George, son of John, the brother of my George. I can use any tips on the Chester to Philadelphia RALSTONs that are not already online at Rootsweb, and don't mind at all if someone tells me something I already know! 3. I made one small (yeah, right!) mistake. H. Bell WOODWARD was not Humphrey Bell WOODWARD, but a female. The H is (as of now) unknown, though, curiously, there *was* an H. Bell WOODWARD who fits the bill, and was known as Humphrey Bell WOODWARD. So it is not certain the Gender entry in the cited text was not incorrect. Why can't these things ever be clear-cut? 1. A New RALSTON Discovery!
    2. Vince Summers
    3. I just had the first real RALSTON discovery I have had for quite a time, and so am excited by it... I am cross-posting to Rootsweb's Philly-Roots and Chester County email list because of its two-county involvement. "Historical Homes and Institutions and Genealogical and Personal Memoirs of Chester and Delaware Counties, Pennsylvania", Vol. 2, edited by Gilbert Cope and Henry Graham Ashmead, Lewis Publishing Company, New York, 1904: "On October 2, 1855, Mr. Woodward married Sarah Ralston, who was born February 13, 1831, a daughter of George and Hannah Ralston, and granddaughter of John Ralston. One child was the issue of this union - H. Bell, born July 14, 1856. Now the above must be, as I interpret it: George Sr RALSTON m. Margaret BELL (by birth, and married first to Edward PASCHALL) Issue: Mary Ann RALSTON - my connection George Jr RALSTON (my deduction based on the above info) Margaret Bell Paschall RALSTON had, for a father, Humphrey BELL. OK. Now George Jr. RALSTON m. a Hannah Someone They have a daughter, Sarah, who married this WOODWARD, and have a son, doubtless Humphrey Bell WOODWARD! Does anyone on either list have anything at all, however small, that makes any connection here? Or has a database of relevant information? Thanks! Vince Summers
