All that I know at the moment of Thomas Davis was that he was collier in Coventry and then, before 1800 moved to Bedford Co where he helped found and work in a furnace at Hopewell. I'll get more information and send it on to you. I have found out, since my post, that the name DeRUSSY (whether spelled because of the reason I listed or not) pre-dated DeROUSSE in the Philadelphia/Chester areas. Vince Summers
I'm just starting to look for a Thomas Davis who was a collier at Coventry Forge in the 1700s. Is anyone working on that family? Hi, Another post concerning another name uncovered accidentally. In the past I have mentioned (and found!) some DeROUSSE who married HICKMAN, etc. Well I just found someone listed online as being buried at: Saint Andrew Lane & Ludwigs Corner Glenmoore Pa 19343 DeRussy, John S., b. 1905, d. 1959. I feel sure the spelling here was because of a misunderstanding in an attempt to pronounce the French DeROUSSE (with an accent aigu over the e). Is anyone aware of this burial, or do you know of anyone of this particular spelling? Thanks, Vince Summers
There appear to have been, in Chester County, *two* Sampson DAVISes (I assume related to each other?). One was born in the timeframe of 1789, and the other much before that. Can you tell me of the relationship between these two? Or, if not, of the parents of Sampson born 1789? Thanks, Vince Summers

I am searching for information on my Grandmother Ada Rumford (Satterthwait)(Carter?). They were supposedly from the Chester area. I believe her mother's name was Maggie (Margaret) Rumford and her father was Charles C. Rumford? Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
There were Lintons in Cecil County. I have been corresponding with an Weir "cousin" whose line includes Lintons. He is living on the original tract. Unfortunately he doesn't have email. Some of his Lintons I have in the Weir booklet I wrote. Hi Bev ~ I don't know if you have access to census records so just a quick search shows the following: 1860 Census Charlestown, Chester Co, PA Post Office was Pickering All born in PA James Lynton, 54, farm laborer, value personal estate 66 Esther, 36 John, 10 Ann, 6 John in the right age for your John Henry. I'll check on more later!! Wanda in NC
The only John or Henry Lynton/Linton (& variations) I could find in Chester County born in March of 1850 was born to James and Esther Lynton in East Caln Twp, Chester, PA. This may or may not be him but it gives you a lead to find his birth record. It would appear he is living with a relative in 1870, also by the name of James Linton, age 26. Older brother not shown at home in 1850? Hope this helps. Kind regards, Sue Hardy ~~~~ Sources: 1850 US Census. East Caln Twp, Chester, PA. Roll: M432_766. Page: 256. Taken: August 27, 1850. I hope it's okay to apologize to the list and admin. Terri
I am new to the list, and I am trying to find a birth record or any kind of information on John Henry Lynton. He was my great grandfather, and the only information I have is that he was born on March 3,1850 in Chester County, PA. He might have changed his name from Linton to Lynton. He married Laura Lavender in Animas City, Colorado sometime in the 1870s. Would especially like to know who his parents and siblings were. Thanks Bev Newton
I have become suspicious of a family connection, though I (nowhere) have found the direct tie-in. I see a number of sites that say a Jonathan EVANS m. Christina King RALSTON in 1822, she being born in the vicinity of 1802. Now I see the RALSTON online document by Leech saying that John RALSTON (the elder) married a Christianna KING, and she died in 1826. Surely one of these three things is the case here: 1. A most outrageous coincidence, 2. Christina King RALSTON is the d/o Christianna, 3. Christianna is the aunt or something of Christina, and one of the family either liked her, personally, or her name so much they took it though there was not a direct connection. #1 is nonsense. #3 is unlikely, but I acutally have that in another family line, and it fooled me for about a year! #2 is probable. Do you possess the tidbit of information that will tell me the answer, or perhaps a database that will? Thanks, Vince Summers

Folks, I pride myself in being a reasonable person, trying to see both sides in a debate, etc. I believe that I am a fair individual, and I try to give the lists that I admin some leeway in that I let a FEW posts go by without commenting on posts that are off topic on the list. Then, I post that I want future posts to be ON TOPIC, not off and expect that to be followed. Well, you are trying my patience. If any more off topic discussions are sent to this list, I will put the list on moderate status, eg. Nothing will be posted without coming through me first. I asked nicely earlier in the day and it has been ignored. This is the next step.... Regards, Peggy Chester Co. Admin
