    1. [PACENTRE] Sweeny - Maze
    2. Here's an item from the CENTRE REPORTER. >From the CENTRE REPORTER of 24 Feb 1898 (abstracted/condensed): "Mrs. John Sweeney of Potters Mills died from stroke; aged 71 years. Buried Sprucetown Cemetery." Ref.: "Centre Hall Reporter, Centre Co., PA, 1891-1900, Births, Deaths, Marriages, Divorces, School Records, etc." (c Apr 2001) by Gerri L. Aitkin, p 221. Something doesn't add up here: You say first wife was Mary Ann (Margaret) Furey and that his 2nd wife was Mary Maze who died in the Johnstown Flood. Centre Co. mar. records shows that John Sweeny married Mary Maze 20 May 1847. The Johnstown Flood was in 1889, so if it was the former Mary Maze who died in the Johnstown Flood, then it was [apparently?] the former Miss Furey who died in 1898, per the CENTRE REPORTER item (above). At my age, I often get confused anymore (Ha!), so maybe I'm overlooking something here. Maybe he was married only once and she was Mrs. Mary Margaret (Furey) Maze when he married here in 1847. I'd need to know more of your sources to evaluate fully but imagine you've done that. John and his wife who died in 1898 are buried in the Sprucetown Cem., Potter Twp. You probably already knew that. I think Mary Maze was married previously, although I can find no records of Mazes anywhere....not a father or husband.... (she was a victim of the Johnstown Flood...passenger on the Day Train, possibly, but unconfirmed--with one of her daughters and grandkids)

    3. Fred, thanks but you found the "other side" of the family who lived in Potters Mill. mine were from Pleasant Gap mostly... your john was son of george, son of (GGGG) John .. my john is john son of (GGG( michael (brother of george) son of (GGGG) john odd that two john's would marry two Mary's but what the heck. mine married two Mary's! and GGGG John was married to a Mary as well. I know my john married Furey, because they have a bunch of children. then she died possibly in childbirth about 1845. great great John remarried... Mary Maze (could be MAYES) in 1847 and had 2 more kids... my great JOHN is youngest. I have been working on the Potters Mills side as well, but not too hard. I know about that Mary's death. our John died before his wife but the grave inscription is as follows (her body was not recoverd or identified after the flood) "Mary Belle Lontz, Tombston Inscriptions of Centre Co, page 41, SWANEY, John d. 8/28/1887, 77y4m26d wife Mary A. age 74y Lost in the Conemaugh flood 5/31/1889" BUT, thanks for the quick reply and info.... John's two sons Jeremiah (by Furey) and John (by Maze) are buried side by side in Pleasant Gap Lutheran Cemetery.
