Fred- I agree with you. My Pennsylvania ancestors were mostly Scots-Irish and English and Dutch, not German or "Pennsylvania Dutch" at all. The Scots-Irish ancestors originated in Northampton County PA in colonial times where there were fairly large settlements in Allen township and Mt. Bethel township. Chester county is another county where many Scots-Irish lived in Colonial times. These folks moved on, sometimes together and sometimes not, but they scattered all over the state as well, living together with the Germans. Part of my Scots-Irish family, the JAMES BOYD family, moved to Centre County, Bald Eagle township, when it was still Northumberland. Interestingly, I can tend to think of Northampton County as a "Scots Irish County" because I have looked so much into the families who lived there, but certainly it was also a very strong German county, much of the land being settled by Germans as the Scots-Irish moved on. > From: [email protected]> Date: Mon, 8 Jan 2007 08:53:56 -0500> To: [email protected]> Subject: [PACENTRE] Pennsylvania Dutch counties> > My opinion is that it is somewhat risky to name certain counties as being > "Pennsylvania Dutch" -- that is, risking slighting people of "Pennsylvania > Dutch" heritage who were in counties other than those cited.
