    3. I have received my copy of the Commemoratve Biographical Record of Clearfield, Centre, Jefferson Counties. I found a long sought reference to my 6th great-granparents, William and Rachel Bonner-Evans. The book states that Ellis Evans was born in Morristown, Pennsylvania. Does anyone know where that is? They also state that Rachel Bonner was "a sister of the grandfather of Robert Bonner of the New York Ledger." I have tried to find a Robert Bonner and I can't find any reference at all. Does this Bonner family sound familiar to anyone? Thanks, in advance for any help! Michele DeParasis

    3. Regarding the New York Ledger, a Google search turned up a site with this info: Description: The New York Ledger, first published by Robert Bonner in 1855, was one of the earliest and most successful storypapers. Storypapers, also called "six-cent weeklies," were weekly newspapers that featured an array of serialized stories, poems, humor, fashion, and current events intended for the entire family. These papers enjoyed enormous circulation. By 1870, the New York Ledger claimed an audience of 377,000 readers. With columns devoted to love, marriage, and baby care, the Ledger catered to a predominantly female readership. Its serialized stories focussed heavily on romance (domestic and historical) and its illustrations included many images of women. Format: 8 pages, with a front-page illustration (sometimes signed by the artist and/or engraver) and additional images inside each issue. Publisher: R. Bonner Place of Publication: New York And from another site is this: Works by New York Ledger 1855 The New York Ledger. The most popular weekly of its day is an outgrowth of the Merchants Ledger, founded in 1847, purchased by Robert Bonner in 1851, and renamed in 1855. The success of the publication was due to Bonner's elaborate advertising and contributions from popular writers, including E.D.E.N. Southworth and Lydia Huntley Sigourney, as well as sophisticated works by Harriet Beecher Stowe, Longfellow, Tennyson, and Dickens. Advice columns by Henry Ward Beecher, Edward Everett, and others were also popular. The New York Ledger became a monthly in 1898 and ceased publication in 1903. cunhel wrote: > I have received my copy of the Commemoratve Biographical Record of Clearfield, Centre, Jefferson Counties. > > I found a long sought reference to my 6th great-granparents, William and Rachel Bonner-Evans. > > The book states that Ellis Evans was born in Morristown, Pennsylvania. 3. Michele, They might mean "Norristown" in Montgomery County, as that is very near Philadelphia and there were lots of Welsh, Quaker, etc. down there. Never heard of the New York Ledger. The Philadelphia Public Ledger was a major national paper at one time.
