Russell, 97, of Meadows of Dan, VA died Monday, August 24, 2009. She was born in 1912 in Schenectady, N.Y., but grew up in State College, Pa. In 1934 she graduated from Pennsylvania State University, from which she received her degree in home economics and institutional food service. She married Eugene M. Russell in 1939 and they moved to Virginia where they were proprietors of Gene Russell Florist in Hampton. After the death of her husband, she moved to Meadows of Dan and was active in the Slate Mountain Presbyterian Church and the Willis Homemakers Club. Surviving are one son, Jack Russell and his wife, Lee Chichester of Meadows of Dan. A memorial service will be held Sunday. Sept. 6 at 2 p.m. at the Slate Mountain Presbyterian Church.
