Two comments regarding the list which provided common tombstone related translations from German: All German nouns are preceded by one of three definite articles denoting gender of the noun and these are declined just as the nouns are declined: DER, DIE, and DAS (masculine, feminine, and neuter). The articles have no relation to the gender of a living being. For example a girl is "Das Maedchen." The German word for daughter is "die Tochter." Linda
