    1. [PACENTRE] Frank S. Sharp Memorial Service
    2. Good evening, listers, I regret to give notice that I have just been informed of the passing of Frank S. Sharp II, aged 89 years, in late May. He leaves to survive him a family, including his daughter, Meryl Sharp Vaughan of Texas. Mr. Sharp had moved away from our area, but was born here in Centre County, in the historic village of Curtin in Boggs Township, on the 30th of August, 1910. The late Mr. Sharp was a son of Frank V. and Ella Harriet (Garthoff) Sharp. His maternal grandparents were James David and Frances (Leathers) Garthoff. Frances is none other than the "Fanny Garthoff" made so famous by the writings of Mr. Sharp's sister, Mary Frances Ward, in her book "Over the Hills." Other titles of Mrs. Ward were "Fast as the Wind," and "Durable People." These books endure in the Historical Foundation at Curtin, and I treasure my copy of "Over the Hills." All persons related to the deceased Mr. Sharp, in connection with the Leathers, Gingher, Shirk, Malone, and Garthoff families, among others, are respectfully invited to attend the memorial services, which will be held on Sunday, the 19th of August, at 1 o'clock p.m. in the beautifully ornamented sanctuary of the Curtin United Methodist Church, the seat of Methodism in Centre County and home of its first congregation (Antes, in 1787). In accordance with the wishes of the late Mr. Sharp his remains have been conveyed to Curtin for this purpose, and will repose among those of his ancestors, mentioned above.
