Leah, What time frame are you talking about? I just realized that one of my Smith ancestors had a sister Mary who married a George Kephart (Cephart?). This would have been in the early 1800s in Centre Co. Another sister married a Henry Kephart in 1797. Do you think that Mary Elizabeth Schmidt might be the same as my Mary Smith? We might be looking at the same families. I haven't tried to trace the Kepharts, but they'd be my cousins too. Interested in the ancestors/siblings of Daniel A. Kephart, born 1840, possibly in Germany, died on 12/16/1922. I have his brothers as being Andy and John. Daniel married Susannah Walker. Curious if he's tied in to the other Kepharts who emigrated earlier. Doug Bierly St. Louis, MO

Jacquelyn, I've been trying to piece together my Smith cousins. I've got a 4th great-grandaunt named Maria Catherine (Katy) SMITH b. 17 Sep 1776 in Centre Co. PA, died 15 Sep 1857 in Decatur Township, Clearfield Co. PA, who married Henry KEPHART on 10 Sep 1797 in Centre Co. PA. That sounds an awful lot like your Catherine B. Our family records also have the name as CEPHART. Katy is the daughter of Stephen SMITH and Maria TROUP/STROUP/STRAUB who died in Potter Township, Centre Co. PA in 1803 and 1807. She's the oldest sister of my 4th great-grandfather Daniel SMITH who married Mary Ann LUSHER and ended up in Venango Co. PA. Hope that helps some.
