We arrived here from Port Royal yesterday on the steamer Arago. We had a very pleasurable voyage of three days. We are now busily engaged placeing(?) the grounds in our comp(?) and arrangeing drills at places I do not know how long we will ______ wait here but it is evident we shall not be at this place for any length of time. Our regt. is in Burnsides division. There are about twenty two thousand soldiers here all under Burnsides command and troops are being shiped to this place every day. When the General gets fifty thousand he intends making a strike. The men are in fine spirits and good health generly. We find this clime cooler and more pleasant than that of S Carolina but at the same time I would just as soon live there. I heard today that some of our company is in the_________at fortress Sumpter. I do not know whether if perhaps it is Charles Glenn or dave; wowever I am going today to the _______ to ascertain this fact. As I have not a very cons_____ way of writing at present I shall close. I will here state that I am going to enclose $45.00 for your benefit. James intends sending you some money soon. I could of sent you a litttle more but perhaps we will not be paid of soon as we will be moving ground for some time. If we fall in the coming action, you will know the use to appropiate it to.
