The name was first VOTRIN and then Germanicized to Wootring or Wotring and then Woodring. Three brothers came to America, Abraham landed at Phila. Sept. 28, 1733 and went to Lehigh Co., John (b. 1711) landed Sept. 3, 1739 and went to York Co and Maryland. Samuel landed Sept. 15, 1749 and went to Lehigh Co. Abraham WOOTRING, b. The survey Nov. 13, 1741, showed 201 acres in what is now North Whitehall Twp, Lehigh Co. Abraham was a delegate to the First Coetus of the Reformed Church at Phila in 1747. He was one of four leaders in the Egypt Church. Samuel WOOTRING or WOODRING (wife Maria Barbara) settled near brother, Abraham, in Whitehall Twp. in 1749, then Bucks Co., after that Northampton and after 1812 Lehigh Co. This was along the same mountain as the KELLY'S lived, only 120 miles miles to the east. WOODRING settled on Coplay Creek near what is now NEFFS. He warranted land as early as 1754. One June 8, 1758 he supplied a packhorse to the Colonial authorities. He started Sand Spring Mill about 1763. Samuel WOODRING, Jr. miller by trade, b. 1745, died 1805 married in 1769, Maria Barbara HOFFMAN, B. 1750, d. 1815, dtr. of John Michael and Eva Catharine HOFFMAN who landed at Phila. Oct. 11, 1732. Feb. 15, 1894., They had nine children: Hesse, Sophia (COWHER), Hannah, Sally (STEPHENS) Maria SMITH, Jacob, Catharine (WINEY) Aaron R., Nancy (REESE). Hannah WOODRING b. May 15, 1836 d. Oct. 7, 1895 near Port Matilda, married Jan. 29, 1856 Robert Jackson KELLY b. July 24, 1834, d. April 18, 1900 near Port Matilda. He was wounded at Spottsylvania, VA May 12, 1864 while serving in 148th Reg. Co. H. Their ten children are: Jessie M. b. Dec. 11, 1856; Nora Jane b. July 8, 1858; Reuben S. b. Marriage Records 1800 - 1850. I think the marriage record would be at SCHLOSSER'S at Unionville, Pa. I am posting to all the List Groups to get the info posted to the other counties.
