Sue, The town of Howard was besieged with an epidemic of what is believed to have been Typhoid during the year 1855. Many people died as a result of this terrible disease. I would not be surprised to learn it was elsewhere in the county. Our county newspaper files from January to November 1855 are sadly non-existent. Linn makes no mention of this epidemic. He does state that it was the year of the locusts; a hailstorm came on July 6th; July was a remarkably wet month. Other than that he is silent. Thanks for the information, Justin. Little bits of information like this make our ancestors seem more alive to us.
