Judy, Old Fort, in Potter Township, Centre County, is the name of a little hamlet just south of the Borough of Centre Hall. It is located at the intersection of PA Routes 144 and 45. It was the sight of what was called "Potter's Fort," a fort built for protection from the Indians in the 1770s for the early settlers, before the great runaway. When the attacks began in earnest in 1778, settlers took refuge in Potter's Fort, named for Gen. James Potter, until they left the valley in 1779-1780. Two soldiers were killed in 1778 when they left the security of the fort to harvest grain and encountered five Indians in the field. Their graves can be seen today. The "Old Fort" stood for many years in that vicinity, but has been gone many years. A historic plaque marks the sight. There is a gas station on one corner, a District Justice and movie rental (I think) in an old stone building across the street, and a house and floral shop in the immediate vicinity. The term "Old Fort" can extend down both highways a little distance also, taking in the nearby houses to form this little community. I hope this helps you place it more clearly in Centre County's geography.
