I am not selling it, I wish I could afford it.Thought someone might be interested in this item. 1763 Indenture/Deed, HEIDELBERG Township, LANCASTER [now LEBANON] County, PENNSYLVANIA. Heidelberg Twp. is adjacent to present-day Lancaster County along Lebanon's southeast border, containing Schaefferstown, Reistville, near Millbach & Richland, in adjacent Millcreek Twp. Also quite proximate to BERKS Co. border. Made part of Lebanon Co. with the county's formation in 1813. Unfolded document measures approx. 28 x 10 3/4", written entirely by hand, on sheepskin w/ scalloped edges. Obvious fold lines w/ miniscule hole at left fold juncture, approx. 1" along seam at center fold juncture, intact right fold juncture. Lower left lateral fold shows minor deterioration, with a few pinholes within the seam. The vellum itself is a bit unevenly toned, typically. All writing is clear & legible, with the title on verso faded somewhat. Several of the scans have been deliberately darkened to emphasize the penmanship on this document; they are not soiled or blackened, as perhaps they appear, only a bit toned in spots, resembling light foxing on paper media. Indenture, dated 14 July 1763, between Martin BATTORFF [aka BATDORFF, BATDORF], and Maria Elizabeth, his wife, of the "Township of HYDELBERG" [HEIDELBERG], Lancaster County, and Martin BATTORFF Junior, eldest son of Martin Sr., conveying land from father to son. The parcel is described as having been granted "by Indenture of Release" by "The Honorable THOMAS PENN, Esq." on 10 Nov. 1738 unto CASPER WISTER [aka WISTAR] and Catherina, his wife, as a parcel of 1,724 acres, who in turn released on 1-2 Nov. 1739 the land to Martin BATTDORFF Senior. The present parcel is 129 acres from this large tract is described primarily in terms of marks such as a black oak &c; names mentioned as owning bordering lands are Christian WALBORN, George SAY, & Peter SHELL. Contains signatures of Martin & Maria Elisabeth BATTORF (both their marks, each with a red wax seal affixed onto blue silk ribbon, stitched through the vellum and visible on verso), Adam REED (Lancaster Co. Justice of the Peace, also w/ adjacent wax seal on ribbon), two witness signatures, one undecipherable, the other appearing to be Jn. WEISER. Significant pre-Revolutionary War document tracing back to the Proprietary government of Pennsylvania, and Thomas Penn, son of William Penn, PA founder. This indenture records only the 2nd transfer of this land in the vicinity of Schaefferstown, which, if memory serves, was established during the very same period (1750s-1760s). Detail scan shows mention of Thomas Penn beneath the word "Indenture," but it may not appear too clearly. Reserve: $150.00. Please see my current auctions for a small but excellent selection of original 18th- and 19th-century Pennsylvania deeds and indentures from Berks, Lebanon, and Lancaster Counties. These documents emerged in an estate auction in Bethel Township, Berks County, in about 1967, have been retained by the same owner since then, and thus have not been publicly offered in 35 years. Prior to that, they were evidently assembled by a private collector and inherited from family archives; presumedly, some of them have never been publicly offered previous to these eBay postings. Needless to say, their authenticity is fully guaranteed into perpetuity, as there are no doubts as to their origins or recent provenance, and all are clearly done on period paper, parchment, or vellum in period ink. TERMS: Postage/Handling $2.50 per document, 50 cents each additional, to US addresses. International shipping generally available at cost plus nominal handling fee. Pennsylvania residents add 6% sales tax or provide valid PA resale number. Combined postage always applied to multiple purchases. Optional insurance extra at buyer's expense. Payment by personal or cashier's check, money order, or on-line via PayPal, Billpoint, or BidPay is expected within 10 days of auction's end. Money-back guarantee on any misrepresented item. http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=1066227499 ==== PABERKS Mailing List ==== Search all former PABERKS Messages at: http://searches2.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl --part1_f6.155183c1.297e1fa1_boundary--
