Greetings, I'm joining your list and wanted to share some of the names in Centre Co., PA I am researching: COOK/RANKIN/HARRIS/PETRIKEN/BLAIR/EAKEN/MCGINLEY My families lived in Bellefonte, Milesburg, and Penn's Valley primarily. The families settled in this area in the late 1700's-early 1800's and lived there until my great aunt Elinor Cook McDowell's death a few years ago. My Cook family is buried in the Bellefonte Cemetery. My grandmother Abbie Cook was born and raised there, attending the Presbyterian church. Grace Cook, my grandmother's cousin married a banker named Reynold's and their lovely home is now a B&B. My Rankin family had a lovely home across the street from the church that is now a mortuary. My Blair family lived in Milesburg. My Eaken/Eakin family lived in Penn's Valley. Any and all help is greatly appreciated in exchanging information. Pattee
Pattee - Any connections to my Harris family? Parents William H. and Hannah Harris living around Bellefonte in the 1890's and Philipsurg in 1900. William was a coal miner according to the 1900 federal census. Their children were: John C. Harris (b: about 1874), Mary H. (nee Harris) Woods (b: Between 1875-1878), Bertha (nee Harris) Boalich (b: 17 Mar 1879;d: 17 May 1949), Sarah A. (nee Harris) McCarl (b:10 Sep 1881), Carrie E. (nee Harris) Shaw (b: Feb 1884), Lily (nee Harris) McDonald (b: May 1886), Violet M. (nee Harris) Ryver (b: Sep 1888), Vergie Harris (b: Nov 1890), George B. Harris (Mar 1894), Naomi (nee Harris) Bell b: Jul 1896), Mabel (nee Harris) Schnars (b: after 1900), and Valma (nee Harris) McClement (b: after 1900). The following Harris obit (Democratic Watchman, Friday, 7 February 1908) is not related to the Harris family of interest to me but someone else may find a connection. "Harris -- Mrs. Harris, wife of Dr. William Harris, of the Northwestern University, Chicago, died in Philadelphia on Monday. She has been in ill health for years and went to Philadelphia six months or more ago for treatment but the disease with which she was afflicted was too far advanced to successfully combat it. Dr. Harris is known in Centre county and with his wife has frequently visited relatives in Bellefonte, and the deceased will be remembered as a most kindly and gracious woman. The funeral was held yesterday afternoon, interment being made in Philadelphia."
