actually some of those doctor's records could be still with his family or donated to historical or genealogical societies. I have records for Dr. Peter McCauley Cook of Webster Mills, Ayr Twnshp, Fulton Co. in latter part of 1800s which I am currently scanning and will put on line. You might contact someone in the area where you are researching. There is sometimes a dirth of info at some of these small libraries.
