As a descendant of the Schürch family (aka Shirck) and a historian of the family Association, I am most interested in your query. I believe your Lewis and Elizabeth (Shirck) Hess are the same people I have in my database as Lewis and Rebecca (Sherick) Hess, Rebecca being the daughter of Jacob and Mary Shirk/Sherick. Jacob was born in 1772 in Paradise Twp, York Co, PA and died in 1813 in Spring Twp, Centre Co, PA. I've not fully researched that descendancy as yet. I do know that Jacob is a grandson of Joseph Shirk, who is identified by the family Association as immigrant Code "C." There is much documentation on this family. In late July there will be a reunion of all the branches of the family in Lancaster County, PA. You (and other descendants) are most welcome to attend. It is very genealogy oriented. I'll be giving a talk on the central Pennsylvania branches of the family, so far as they are known. I'd be most interested in sharing info with you as it looks like we have a match. Although it is not yet proven, it is thought that immigrant "C" Joseph Shirk (1700-1770) was the son of an earlier Casper Schürch (born 1657 in Switzerland). If so, he may well be the brother of my direct ancestor, Casper Shirk (c1710-1770), making us some form of distant cousins.
