    3. Hello Pat McBride, Couldn't find "Wolf's Den" or "McBride's Gap", but according to "Where To Go & Place Names of Centre Co." by Paul M. DUBBS Pub. 1959-60: there was a Wolf's Chapel in Haines Twp. "The site is along Rt. 45 (formerly called the turnpike) about two miles east of Aaronsburg. There, on Dec. 15, 1789, Jacob STOVER "for and in consideration of promoting literature and learning" donated a seven-acre tract "for the use of a school and a master thereof." "Shortly afterwards a double log house was built, with one room reserved for the master and his family. Later that building was replaced by a larger one erected by the Haines Twp. School District. For many years the school was the only one in the Eastern part of Penns Valley." "Similarly, the oldest cemetery in the twp. was the one adjoining the school and was part of the land donated by Jacob STOVER for school purposes. A small church there was called "WOLF"S CHAPEL" - a name which has persisted today even though nothing remains of the church or school." ******************* Also there was a Wolf's Store in Miles Twp.: "There is no store at Wolf's Store any more. The oddly-named litle Miles Twp. community consists of 8 homes, if you include the one down the lane to the south of town on the GRAMLEY farm. the other homes line highway Rt. 95 abt. 4 miles east of Rebersburg." "The town received it's name from a store established there in 1844 by Thomas WOLF, in the home now occupied by Mr & Mrs. John HANSELMAN, Sr. The store's activities dwindled until abt. 10 years ago (1949-50) when it was closed." Regards, Paul
