American Rev. Soldiers & Sailors" WILLIAM THOMPSON, SR. b. c. 1723 Ireland d. abt. 1812, Nittany Valley near Snydertown, Walker Twp. Rev. war service: Signed Petition for Arms and Ammuniation, Sept. 20, 1776. Comments: He was in Chester Co. abt. 1745 and in 1746 moved to Hopewell Twp., Cumberland Co. (now Franklin Co.) He was living in Cumberland co. during the time of the Revolution. In 1776 he was in Potter Twp. He and his son, William Jr. were among the first to petition the Comm. of Pa for Arms and Ammuniation. Pet. dated Sept. 20, 1776 is on file with the Sec. of the Commonwealth. In 1793 he sold his farm to son John, but made his home with him and died there. Children: William, Jr. m.
