    1. [PACENTRE] 1880 Census

    3. There are several copies of the LDS 1880 census index at the National Archives, SE Branch, and although it can be useful in some cases, overall, we have had a good deal of trouble using it. As stated below, names are not listed that are recorded on the census sheets, many many errs in spelling, in some cases pretty far removed from what it should be. We have also experienced disks that will not run either intermittenly or one that never would run. Like anything else you use in your genealogy quest ... you still need to verify and document your data. Happy hunting! Barb >As the web site shows, there are problems using these disks. I had problems >finding people on these disks in the counties in which I had earlier seen >them on the census for 1880. Also, since the names are transcribed, they can >be highly inaccurate. > "Remember me in the family tree -- my name, my days, my strife; Then I'll ride upon the wings of time and live an endless life."
