Nance This is not my line, but I came across this obituary while looking for something else, and thought someone with Centre Co. connections might be interested. HEARD--In Blooming Valley, December 4, James A Heard, aged 74 years. (Blooming Valley is in Crawford Co. PA) Mr. Heard was born in Bellefonte, PA in 1809. He removed to Crawford Co. in 1832 and settled on the farm upon which he died. He was married in 1833 to Hannah Floyd, of Blooming Valley, who had come into this county the previous year from York County. Mrs. Heard and five children survive the father. Mr. Heard was a man of independent mind. He always took a deep interest in Public Affairs. In politics he was a Whig---one of the earliest in the county. He was an early abolitionist and a staunch Republican from the time the party was formed. He filled the office of Justice of the Peace for fifteen years and was for many years postmaster of Blooming Valley. He was universally respected for his intelligence, high character and public spirit, and will be sincerely mourned by his neighbors and friends. >From the CRAWFORD JOURNAL DEC. 7, 1883.
