    1. [PACENTRE] Current status of GEORGE AND (MARY) PRICE STAMM research
    2. Karl Moyer
    3. Below is my current work status in the George and Mary (Price) Stamm Family ancestors of Sarah Maud (Stamm), mar. to Ammon Smith) Moyer of Stephenson Co IL I would be most grateful for corrections to errors that might be here and additional information. I think we're once again looking at another family line who came to Centre Co from east of the Susquehanna, in thsi case from well east of the Susquehanna in Berks Co. PA, and whose family moved on to Stephenson Co. IL. Does anyone know of a dependable and "complete" -- yeah, I know, that's pretty hopeful!! :-) -- study in print of the migration from Centre Co. to Stephenson Co.? Why so specifically from Centre Co. to Stephenson Co., both by Scottish familes such as Askey and by Pa. German famillies such as Stamm, Hockman, Swartz, Moyer, etc.? LOTS of families did it, including various lines of my own, and if I can ever get into print some day, this topic will become an important part of it!! My warm and abundant thanks to various folks who have posted information on this STAMM family search. 1. [PACENTRE] Re: Migration from Centre Co to IL, etc
    2. Gloria Harbach
    3. Karl - I might add to Justin's excellent explanation of the migration to IL that sometimes an entire church congregation would make the move. While Centre County's terrain was beautiful for farm folks, these settlers had very large families and not enough land to give every son his own farm. Also, just as Centre Co beckoned its settlers to come there in the first place, so did IL and WI beckon these same people to go West. As the old saying goes - the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence. One of my ancestors traveled from Centre Co to Erie by stagecoach, then across the lake to Detroit where he boarded a train to Michigan City and from there took a stagecoach to Freeport, IL in 1847. When his first wife died in 1865 in IL he apparently took a train to Sugar Valley where he married a widow in 1866 and took her to his home in IL.
