>Can someone tell me if it was necessary to have a son die in the service = >to become a Gold Star mother? HI List ! Back after 11 mos off. Yes, Gold Star Mothers were those that lost children in the war/s. The USPS ( the the Post Office Dept. ) issued a stamp in honor of Gold Star Mothers in the late 1940's or 50's, a 3 center. Any stamp collectors shop would have one, if they stock US stamps, maybe cost you .25 cents. It would make a nice addition to a Family Album page, or ask for a " Block of Four".
