Hi John (and others interested in the interments in this cemetery), The publication committee of the Centre County Genealogical Society is working feverishly on the Rush Twp book. We had hoped to have it available this past spring, but when we were given the oportunity to photocopy and compare over 100 years of records from the Philipsburg cemetery, it slowed the project. We are in the process of: 1. checking every name from the records to see if they have a tombstone, if so if the death year is on the stone 2. checking every name from the records who does not have a stone, and trying to figure where they are buried, so it can be noted in the book The second item is the slow down on the project. Also, when a burial record says 'Buried Mrs. John Smith' or 'Buried Baby' or 'Buried Baby Smith' and no more information, it becomes a guessing game at times. Except for the checking of the records, the book is done and indexed. We just need to add the appropriate information, once the information is placed, etc. Although it may sound simple, it is very complex and we suffer from a lack of local volunteers willing to check the obituaries to verify who 'Mrs. Smith' was. Rest assured that we are hoping the book will be available this fall, and I will be sure to mention on this list that it is available. Do keep tabs on the CCGS web pages, as our new books are always announced on there. Also, another new cemetery book is LIKELY to be published before the end of August (this is NOT Rush Twp but I will not say any more), so keep tuned for the info. In the 1870 Census for Philipsburgh Borough: Joshua Beck, age 39 wife Eliza, age 37 son Wesley, age 14 son George, age 11 daug Nannie, age 7 son Ira, age 4 In the 1880 Census for Philipsburg Borough: Joshus Beck, age 48 son Harry, age 8 Eliza, the wife of Joshua Beck, was the daughter of Andrew and Mary (Kephart) Nearhoof. She died sometime after Harry's birth and before the 1880 census. Andrew Nearhoof estate papers dated 1889 mentions George (living in Pittsburg), and Joshua, Harry, and Ida? living in Philipsburg. Apparently along with Eliza, other family member died prior to 1889. Does anyone have gravestone information or other information on Joshus Beck, Eliza, and other family members date of birth and death? Any help would be appreciated. Ralph nearhoof@nb.net
