Mary Belle Lontz published the burials of the Bellefonte Union Cem. in 1984 but her work only takes the burials up through 1930. I've been told it is a copy of the work of Newton B. & Adella DeForrest (Fink) Spangler which became part of the well-known Spangler Collection in the Pennsylvania Room of the Centre County Library & Historical Museum in Bellefonte, PA. Mr. Spangler passed away in 1938 and Mrs. Spangler died in 1964. I have no knowledge that Mary Belle Lontz has died and it seems entirely possible that she might have copies of her work yet for sale. One needs to keep in mind that there have been many, many burials there since 1930 (the last ones in her work). It, being far from complete, is still a better record than the one who find at the website. Fred H., Minn.(native of Centre Co., PA)
Hello Alanna, The web site for Union Cemetery in Bellefonte is filled with errors. There are people listed on that site who are buried elsewhere, and there are many people who are buried in that cemetery who are not listed on that site. Unfortunately, that web site is pretty much what is found in the records! Those records include many decades where there are no burials listed, but for whom there are existing grave markers. The Centre County Genealogical Society is in the process of producing a book to include the cemeteries of Bellefonte Borough. Watch the CCGS web site at: http://www.centrecountygenealogy.org for an announcement of the publication of this book. Do be aware that good things take time, and this publication is not expected in the near future. Your best bet might be to contact the Pennsylvania Room of the Centre County library and ask if there is an obituary for your ancestor, which might include the cemetery name. Do be sure to send them a donation with such a request. Good luck in your search, Ellen ------------- Date: Fri, 02 Apr 2010 02:30:00 -0000 From: "gc-gateway@rootsweb.com" <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> Subject: [PACENTRE] Union Cemetery, Bellefonte To: <PACENTRE@rootsweb.com> Message-ID: <1270175402.1065443@rootsweb.com> Content-Type: text/plain; This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. To all: If you contact the Centre County Library's PA Room personnel, they can get the obituary printed out from the microfilm on file there. I visited there about 2 weeks ago and they provided me with an obit from 1900 from the Democratic Watchman for my g-g grandfather, Wm. B. Eckley. The people who work there are awesome and really helpful. Sandy. You can purchase them from Cordy Chambers who lives in Clarence. There are lots of reference to Quicks in them. Is your family from Snow Shoe? In addition, they are available for reference at the Lions David House in Snow Shoe. pacentre-request@rootsweb.com wrote: >PACENTRE Mailing List Digest > >Today's Topics: > > 1.
