I have kind of hit a dead end on William Gregory any further back than about 1820 in Centre County, PA. I have a copy of the marriage certificate for his son George Washington Gregory. On the certificate it shows his father as William Gregory and mother as Susan Shade. William was born about 1820 and Susan about 1830. On a 1850 census, it shows Susan and William without any children living in Spring Township, Centre County, PA. On the 1860 census, they had moved to Stevenson County, IL and had 4 children. I would guess that they married sometime just before 1850 in Centre County, PA. I have been unable to trace anything solid back before this. I checked my Boggs, Burnside/SnowShoe, Marion/Walker, and Liberty/Curtain cemetery books, but found no Frank and/or Bertha Young. However, that means nothing - there may not be markers for them. Or they could have been from another county, like Columbia County, where it was reported the Youngs came from. Sure is interesting............ We must be happy that any records exist for this cemetery, considering how early the initial burials were. Many older cemeteries have no burial records! The publication that the genealogical society is compiling will include currently unmarked burials in Bellefonte Union Cemetery that have been located in the following sources: inventory from the 1920s to 1940s compiled by Adella Fink Spangler burials from the St. John's Episcopal Church burial records burials from the existing cemetery records burials from the Centre County death records (these records cover only the years 1893-1905) It will be as complete as we can make it, but I'm sure there will be many burials still unrecorded! If you have proof of an unmarked burial in this cemetery (a death certificate, an obituary, funeral director's record, or an estate record that includes the location of burial) the genealogical society will include the name and death date of your ancestor. For this information to be included, you must snail mail a copy of the proof of burial to the genealogical society before the end of May, 2010 to: Publications Committee Centre County Genealogical Society PO Box 1135 State College, PA 16804-1135 Keep in mind that there are numerous cemeteries in Centre County that are 'Union Cemetery' so the record must reflect that it is the one in Bellefonte. SKS has posted a photo of the sign at the entrance of the cemetery here: http://tinyurl.com/ye3bfml It has contact phone numbers for "tours". Possibly someone at one of the numbers may know if burial records exist, or if plots were sold by recorded deed (which you could search personally at the Courthouse). Huge numbers of burials have taken place with no gravestone installed. Old stones may fall and be covered over with soil and sod, or have a tree grow up through a broken one. So recent cemetery readings do not account for a very large number of burials. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYTHING QUITE LIKE THIS.... First click on a state. When it opens, scroll down to the city and the names will appear. Then click on their names. It should show you a picture of the person, or at least their bio and medals. This really is an amazing web site. Someone spent a lot of time and effort to create it. I hope that everyone who receives this appreciates what those who served in Vietnam sacrificed for our country. The link below is a virtual wall of all those lost during the Vietnam war with the names, bio's and other information on our lost heroes. Those who remember that timeframe, or perhaps lost friends or family can look them up on this site. Pass the link on to others if you like. http://www.virtualwall.org/iStates.htm

This is yet another part of the Young family mystery. There is a Julia of the right age with David and Zepporah Ream-Young on the 1860 census. I have traced this Julia and the birth day and month are not the same and if I remember correctly she is shown in later years with a husband who is not James Shope. So I don't think this is our Julia. A lot of people have made that connection, but I don't think it is right. If someone has information to prove otherwise I would be interested in seeing it. As for the Nancy listed on the 1860 census with the family, she is Julia's sister Nancy (Nannie) Watkins-Young. The Margery listed on the 1860 census with the family is listed again on the 1870 census with the family as Margery J. A Julia Young does show up on the 1870 census alone with the Barnhart family as a servant. So is this our Julia or is Margery J our Julia? I'm really not sure, but none of the other documentation I have found ever lists Margery as a name for Julia. However, I know William was her father as he is listed on her death certificate and also on her obituary. Her mother is listed under the names Anna (on censuses)/Ideanana (Obit)/Julia (Death Certificate.) I have copies of both of these documents on my family tree attached to Julia. If anyone would like a copy emailed to them just let me know. Sorry if I gave you more questions instead of answers. It seems that's the way this part of the family is. I think if we all keep trying to puzzle it out we'll eventually get it. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I am a Rowles descendant of John and Lydia, but have also been looking for any details of Mary thinking that it may lead to learning who John's mother and father were. It is my current premise that John was born in America rather than in England as I had previously supposed. My grandfather is Alvin Fagan Rowles son of Miles Reed Rowles, son of Price Alexander Rowles, son of Harman Fagan Rowles, son of John (and Lydia Whippo) Rowles. It is my current presumption that Lydia went to live with John and Mary to help Mary with the household management during her last pregnancy (with twins?) which appears to be in 1792 and which may have caused or resulted in her death. As near as I can tell, the Whippos may have originally come from Maryland, but I have scant details to corroborate that thinking. Anything you could share on Mary, Lydia, George Jr. and/or his father George Sr. (and their wives) would be most gratefully and sincerely appreciated. According to the old records, there are a Mr. and Mrs. McClincy buried in lot 1039. The record doesn't state if there is a stone or not, nor any dates, nor their first names.
